C. F. Walker received last week from the poultry yard of F. C. Dan nals at Albany, a pen of full-blooded Itarred Plymouth Rock chickens. They will make part of the exhibition at the Poultry show in Deceinlier. The new warehouse built for Mr. Hurkholder is completed and in use. The new addition to his store build ing contemplated will be postponed for the present, It being now rather late In the season to commence the work. The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Coppernoll of ICugene, died last Wed nesday. The parents have the sym pathy of a largo number of friends in this city. Mrs. Coppernoll is a slater of Mr. Awbrey of this place. Mr. LePioy Woods has accepted a position In C. II, Rtukholder'a store. His many friends will be pleased to accept this as a sign that he Intends to still continue a resident of Cottage Grove. It has been reported that the Ilooth-Kelly Lumber Company's mill at Wendling had shut dowu perma nently. This Is not the case, as the mill Is undergoing extensive improvements. Application for a charter as a na tional bank is now being prepared for forwarding to the Comptroller of the Currency a. Washington. The applicants are C Hoss King, Bertram Applegnte, James Puni phrey and J. F. and M. V. Daugh eity, who, together with Phil and Clyde Heckley, will be the principal stockholders. The capital stock will be $25,000, one-half the amount required ol banks in towns of .'1,000 people or over. The bauk will con tinue to do business as a private concern until its charter arrives and then change without interruption. SCHOOL BOOKS ARRIVED At Lurch's store, this week was received the largest consignment of school books aud supplies ever brought at one time to Cottage Grove. The value of the books alone is $1500. This large invoice is accounted for by the change throughout in the text books for both the High school and Grammar school. Mr. Lurch is the general distributor for this section. IN THEIR NEW HOME Notwithstanding there were two entertainments advertised for Mon day last in Cottage Grove, the cen- i ter of attraction was the opening of the new establishment of W. A. Hemenway. The fine large show windows of the new home in the brick structure at the corner of Main and Fifth streets, commanded the attention of everyone, and not only ladies but gentlemen as well, stopped to glance at the elegant display of dress goods. The ex hibit was not large or gaudy, but elegant and nicely arranged. The stock of goods in the store ia a large one and the general arrange ment and assortment is not sur passed by auy establishment south of Portland. STAUE NOTICE. R. M.
