The school board at a meeting
held Monday, elected L. M. Tttek
ker of this city, to be principal of
the west side school, and Miss Myr
tle l'urvance to fill the vacancy in
the seventh grade, caused by the
resignation of Miss Mary Uuxton.
It has come to us that two of
our enterprising citizens are con
templating putting in a sash and
door iactory iu this city in the near
futuie that will give employment to
about fifty men. We are not at
liberty just now to give the names
of the patties, but they aro credited
with having plenty ol capital to
carry out any design they may de
cide on, but at present the proposi
tion is uot far enough along to
make it a ccitainty. W'o hope,
however, that the gentlemen will
meet with encouragpinent enough
to justify them going ahead, for it,
is just, such industries as this that
Cottage Grove needs,
CITY COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS.
The city council met iu regular
session on Monday night, and al
though it lasted several hours, not
a great deal of important business
was transacted.
The matter of the linprovment
of Kiver mreet occupied a consider
able portion of tho time in discus
sion, but final proceedings were
postponed until next meeting.
An ordinance for the imptove
tnonl of Third street from Kansas
Avoiuie Ronth, was passed, also one
for tho improvement of the alley
running parelkl to Main street 011
each side.
Tho usual grist of bills were al
lowed and the council adjourned
until next Monday night.
