L',.-t 'A'-ek we learned tbat tbe
fiOrrxial, or flmrxietropic eye is per
fectly round Id the aboe draw
ing tbe eye is too .short from front
to back. Tbe dotted line showing
where tbe back w&H cf tte ye
-bould extend to. This is called
ibe Hyperopic cr Fr-Sighted liye.
At birth tbe eye-b'dl is ery flat
but as tbe child grows older it be
cotoes more round until at the aiye
of eight or nine it is auppoaed to
be perfect. But most children are
placed in school at the early age cf
live or mx. The .strain upos tbe
eyes in reading, writing and look
ing at email object is very great at
tbis age because the ciliary muscle,
wbic-h was explair-ed some time
ago. is not s.trong fenougb yet to do
the proper amount of focusing
Consequently, if the cbild is weak
or if the n'-ceary amount of nour
ishment is not taken from tbe food
tne eyes are not developed properly,
but remain too hhort, causing head
aches, e o p'iinsand other troubles.
While much discomfort is experi
enced in doing close work, often
causing children that are naturally
bright to npiear dull and stupid at
their studies. The remedy for this
is to have the eyes thoroughly ex
aminc-d by a competent eje special
ist. The proper glasses prescribed
and worn and the eyes re examined
from time to time. If the correct
care in given cbildrens' eyes under
this condition after a year or two
the eyes will be found to have im
proved to Huch an extent tbat the
glasses may be laid aside.
