Sixty-nine pounds of gold in bars, tho result of twenty two davs run of the Oregon Securities Company's mill. It was not only a splendid sight, it is encouraging and tue key note of what is yet to come. This company has continually devel oped and improved their property, vasts sums of money have been re quired and a long period of patience and perseverance for those direct- y interested. A company may lavo lanre properties aud lartre works, yet there is always more to e dono, changes reparrs and im roverneiits are the work of every day; but when production is fairly commenced, trivial delays and ex- eiipes are not so bad, for the yel low metal once bfarteel piles up very fast. With a steady output from tbe Oregon Securities Company and a number of other properties close to the threshold of success Bohemia will be rated among the proJucing dis tricts of the state, more capital will sotk investment there, more trans poitation will be looked after and iacilitias for the reduction of its ores a ill closely follow. It is strange but true and ex tremely vivid to those that have tried to accomplish somethiug, that Bohemia with its sure promising wealth has been long on its way. There is nothing gained bv parad ing hindrances and delays but all could be hastened and better days arc close ol baud, once 'going and you can't stop it, nor will jou want to etop it. Mining builds up a state and cities faster than any other industry, makes more wealth and is the lar gest consumer of supplies, takes ev ery other industry along with it. Bohemia with Cottage Grove as the in-let city has more to attract a rapid growth of mining people and the necessary mining money than any region of recent vears where the crowds have rushed; with the dawn of this an era of encouragement may the best come to all. Oregon Mining News. By the lirst of the present month tbe management of the Rogue River Power, Mining & Smelting Com pany expected to have tho machin ery and furnace for the new plant, which is erected at Savago Rapids, near Grants Pass. It is tho hope to blow the furnace in New Year's day. and if there is no delay in the delivery of tho parts local the man agement believes that this end will be accomplished without difficulty, Tho electric machinery that was recently delivered to the Champlin dredge on Foots creek, near Gold Hill, has already been placed and consists of two 7o, two U5, two 20 10 horse power motors. Tho larger motors are to actuate the digging apparatus of tho big pump, while the smaller ones will be used lor va rious purposes around the plant. Wiring connecting the dredge with the main power line of the Condon Water & Power Company's plant has about been completed and the dredge is expected to go into com mission any day with new energy. Capt. Mclntyre, who had charge of transportation for the Takilma Smelting Company, is taking his teams, comprised of i2D mules, off the road for the season. Early rains make tho roads to Takilma quite heavy and no effort will be made to haul any considerable quantity un til spring. Arraugeineuts were completed by both the Taklima and Waldo Smelting A Mining Com panies for thorough exploration of the copper group that is clustered about the smelling plant during the coming season and in the spring an immense tonnage is expected to be exposed for reduction. The capacity of a revolving screen will depend very largely upon how the ore breaks. Ores which break cubical, or nearly so, in shape, go through a screen very fast, but ores which break in specules or needle shaped particles do not screen nearly as fast as cubical breaking ore. The following average may meet the requirements of the engi naer: Screen making twenty revo lutions per minute, 30-mesh screen and capacity 1,000 pounds per twenty-four hours per square foot of screen surface ; 20-mesh, capacity 1,2G0 pounds per square foot; 1G mesh, 1,700 pounas; 12-mesh, 2,200 pounds; 8-mesh, 3000 pounds.
