If there is oue man on the rt

support ol every republican in the
county more than another, it is our
old frieud A M price, candidate for
I commissioner. In the days ot
populism when republicans by the
hundreds broke t'leir legs in their
wild efforts to climb into the silver
wagon. Mr Price remained true to
the party of protection and pros
perity. He was a resident of
Thurston at that time and was
about the only republican left in
that precinct. He was committee
man and the party following con
sisted largely of himself. His
party loyalty has stood the test

.dent the conventions could not have
made a better selection of candi
dates for the various offices, than
are presented for the suffrage of the
voters.
Thus far and ample time has
elapsed since the conventions, to do
so, no charge of dishonesty or in
competency worthy of considera
tion has been made by the opposition.
When such candidates are pre
sented, it is the plain duty of all
republicans to stand firm and vote
a straight ticket, no trading is nec
essary.
If this is done by the republican
voters the whole ticket will be
elected by a handsome majority
Be fair with your candidates and
vote for all of them.

Hundreds from the Willamette Val

(Long) lleucli, Washington, last
summer, anil It Is safe to say that
this popular resort of the North Pa

mort this year than ever within Its
history. Tho change from the valley
to the soa level opens up an entirely
new realm of scenic charms.
The trip on the Willamette and Co
lumbia rivers, out of Portland, Is oue
long to lie rcuioinlKMvd, the UMiinl
heat of a summer afternoon lolng
tempered by a gentle breeze freighted
with tho aroma of pine trees and
k'uhhihmI with salt sea air. The
scenery Includes much that Is ticauti

Its harbor when' lly the lings of

the Willamette river are quickly
made. and. after saluting the govern

tion of the two rivers, the tioat
swings Into thcColuintilu for tho trip
down stream. The morning Is clear
(generally so from June until Sep

sweep around the IkmuI Is made five
suowcnpiied s.aks. Mount Hood,
Mount AdauiH, Mount Saint Helen,
Mount Italiilernnd Mount Jefferson,
looming Into view a sight worth
traveling thousands of miles to see.
On down the picturesque river, past
villages, sawmills, llsliing fleets, miI
uioii canneries, penwuillciilur basaltic
bluffs, and pretty side-hill farms, the
bout pursues Its way. The majestic
sweep ot the river Is nwe-lusplrlng.
Gradually the shores grow further
apart and. scarcely realizing that
the five hours have ls?en consumed In
making the trip, the boat steams
alongside the wharf at Astoria.
One hour from Astoria, through
the fumous fishing waters of the Co

with trains of tho Iiwaco Hallway &

stand on the wharf awaiting tho
steamer. North Beach, where the
surf bathing Is unexcelled, at low
tide Is from 200 to 400 feet wide,
twenty-three miles long and so com
pact that n carriage or wagon
scarcely leaves a truce upon It. Scat
tcred along the beach are hundreds
01 cottages and hotels in which sum
mer life Is an unceasing round of
pleasure from the oiwulug until the
closing of the season. The much
dreaded "Resort Mosquito Is 1111
