The Republican Ticket.
Several weeks have passed by
since the republican conventions met
and made their nominations. It
was said at the time, the conven
tions had nomfnaled as capable and
as representative candidates for the
suffrage of the voters as hnu ever
been presented in this section.
Time seems to verify these state
ments. No charges worthy of
consideration have been made
against any candidate. By those
best informed it is claimed this
county has a majority ot at least
500 republican votes. If this be
true every candidate upon the
ticket should be elected by a very
handsome majority, as there is uo
good reason why a republican
should tail to vote the ticket in its
entirety.

long in this senatorial district to

I this gentleman. Even by his op
ponents. Senator Booth is accred

quirements to the complete satis
faction of his constituents, there is
no reason why he should not re
ceive the heary support of the
people of this district for state
senator.

sheriff, is an envious one. No one
acquaiuted with Chief Stiles can
doubt his excellent qualifications
lor the othce ot sheriff.
For County Judge.

sitions to be filled by the voters of
Lane count) next June is that of
county judge. The duties and re
sponsibilities of a county judge are
important and weighty The
estates of deceased persons, the
property of minor children and in
eompetent persons, are administered
upon and cared for under the super
vision of the county judge. In or
der to properly and efficiently dis
cbarge these duties, a man must be
naturally careful and painstaking
because corrtct and just conclusions
cannot be reached unless based
upon a thorough understanding of
all the facts, including minor de
tails of each case.
As a member of the board of
county commissioners, the county
judge is one of the three officers
whose duty it is to audit and pay
bills and claims against the county.
The county expenditures are in the
hands of the board of county Com
missioners. The county judge by
reason ot tits position lias much to
say about what expenditures should
be made and where they should be
made. A large amount of money
is expended each year on roads and
bridges. I he taxpayers are inter
ested in having a good business
man at the head of the board of
the board of county commissioners.
The republicans of Lane county
made an excellent selection when
they nominated Hon G R Chris
man for county judge, Mr. Chris-
man has been for tunny years iden
tified with Lane county and is one
of the largest taxpayers in the
county. He is a careful business
man. A man who can make a
success in his own business can
make n success in the management
of the county's business! It re
quires n careful business man to
pi event waste of the county
moneys. Mr Chrismaii Is thor
oughly qualified in every patliculur
lor the position ot county judge
nnd the voters of Lane county, can
make no mistake in voting for him
next June. We predict that Mr.
Clirlsmau will run ahead of his
ticket and that he will be elected
by a large vote.
