BISHOP EARL CRANSTON COMING
This Noted Divine Expected to
Hold Services at the M. E. Church Sunday
from Krtnliif Tlemn
"Public opinion Inn frmid."
"Society is n nil 11 in and n drcelt."
"The world 1 traveling too rapidly for Christian safety."
"The trouble with the children ol God Is that they don't think."
"Modern Christians do not give an avsrage of 15 minutes n day to
serious meditation."
"I he very fact that,
we ore being swept for
wiird by tills tremendous
current proves that we
nre lot doing any serious
til lilting."
These and mnny more
epigrams of like char
ncler were driven home
by Bishop Karl Cranston
yi nterday morning at the
Tiylor-Street Methodist
Church. Taking for his
uxt Psalms lxli:5, "My
soul, await thou In si
le cc for God alone,"
Bishop Cranston signal
led his return to Port
I nid by preaching a most
impressive sermon, of
which serious thought
mid meditation were the
keynote. He declared
that the world was trav
eling so fast that its
ptople were forgetting
to think, ninl that 'he picteut age wa getting to be one of no deep con-1
vlctions. Iu tin hurry and pell-ttcll rush for business and money-mak-j
lug Bishop Cranston saw a grave ilmiger. The church, he said, had j
been caught up in the maelstrom, and Christianity was being swept!
along, and all Wiiihc the followers of God's teachings were not devot-'
lug lime to serious thinking.
The divine drew a pretty picture of the Buddhists and Ilrahmius nud j
the time they gave up to silent meditation, and how at last they re j
ceived their inspiration. He insisted that not one iu ten 'members of the;
congregation gave up 15 minutes to serious thought of God, and he
made nil exceptionally strong plea lor them to devote at least 30 minutes
out of each day to religious thought. If this were done Ilishop Cran
ston predicted that a religious uprising, such as would turn the world
tisldcdown, would result, ,
"Thsrecnube 110 soul solvation without thought" said 1,'Miop'
Cranston. "You mint separate yourself from the mass, for the only
honest hours we havo are those that are spent alone. It Is Impossible to I
think an honest thought in public. We have improved on the teachings
of the ancient too rapidly for safety, in the rush and hurry we have for
gotten to think seriously, deeply and, unlets more time is spent with
u"d, a mighty rr.r-li will follow. . H.tb.i p. ascites mind, and unless ivi
get into the habit of daily thinking of God we arc lost.
1 Oncof the Largest.
According to the account given
by Phillip Spoug, who has been at
work upon his claims iu the IIo
hemfa district, he has uncovered
one of the largest bodies of ore and
close to the surface which has yet
been found iu that district. The
tuniirl in which the body of ore is
found has been driven less than
forty feet and the walls are some
eighteen leet apart.
About hair or the ore is of a base
character while the test is an oxi
dized, or milling ore. All the ore
looks well, yet there is consider
able in which the free gold can be
seen, We expect to hear of other
finds before spring as many of the
owners of claimi are getting into
the ground these winter months.

The company has spent a large

road, erecting new buildings, in
stalling the new stamp mill, nud
sawing at least 250,000 feet of
