A half hour liefore Mrs. Withers ar
rived .Sheriff Withers stated In the
presence of Dr. Falne, (leorge Fisher,
and George Uowlsby that he had
Lyons arrested, that he had his
hands on him when Lyon's wife
grablicil him (Withers) by the arms
and that Lyons father aud mother
also tnterferred and Withers was
shot by Lyons without oxivectlng It.
Dr. I'alne said Withers never suf
fered any particular pain and that he
had died as he had lived, a brave
man.
The funeral was held Tiwsdaj-,
Feb. 10th, and was the largest ever
held In Kiigene. by hundreds.
