Eugene High School Wins..
The game of football nt Kugene
last Saturday lietween the High
School eleven ami the Ashland Nor
mal School eleven wan certainly a
surprise to many people who did not
really know how good a team the
high school boys hud. The score of
twenty-four to nothing certainly lu
d lent es that the Normal school boys
were not seriously In It nt nay stage
of tho game, but were simply out
classed. The Ashland team Is composed of
big husky fellows who look as
though they could not Is? easily de
feated by any ordinary aggregation
of "school hoys" and have won some
hotly contested games this
Southern Oregon.
That the Eugene high school boys
did themselves proud goes' without
saying aud were we u native of that
Uttluclty we would feci Justly proud
of our high school football team.
We look for the high school boys
to give the Portland high school
eleven the game of their lives should
they meet them this season on the
gridiron.
The
Special School Election,
result of the scciul school
election held In the city Wednesday
wutj very gratifying to the progress
ive element of our city Inasmuch as
It resulted in the voting of the spe
cial tux levy for tho equipment of the
extra room nnd the hiring of auextra
teacher which was made necessary
by the wonderfully Inerrased atten
dance this year over that of any pre
vious yejir.
Out of a total vote of forty-four
thirty-two were, for the tax and but
twelve against It. This vote shows
the tendency of the times ami Indi
cates the progressive spirit that Is
prevailing in Cottage drove.
This will make eight rooms In our
ason In choI nil of which will have 11 large
attendance and will be presided over
by teachers of experience and ability.
Under the present management our
schools are fast forging to the front
and will mmAi become known as
among the liest in the state from an
educational point of view.
