Ha Ting, from Skngway to Vancou
ver, wont nshoro yesterday afternoon
at Tucker Bay, Jarvis Island, and is
now hard and fast on tho rocks. Tho
place io n smnll rocky islet lying to
the northeast of Lnsquctti Island, at
Uio ontranco to Sabine Strait, 49
miles north of Vancouver.
When tho steamer went ashore Cap
tain Gosso was on watch, and iiret
officer Nowrotsos wns on tho bridge
with tho master of tho vessel. Tho
fog at tho time was so donso that it
was impossible to seo 10 feet in any
direction. Tho Ha Ting had on
board 170 passengers, of whom 130
were first class and 40 second class.
Thoro was no panic when tho steamer
struck, and the passengers were soon
mado awaro that there was no danger
to bo apprehended. After examina
tion of thosteamer, when it was found
that sho could not get off tho rocks
by her own efforts, tho captain started
Pilot Gunns off to Vancouver in a
ship's bout witli four mnn. Gunns
rowed down, arriving in Vancouver
this afternoon. Ho met no steamer
until his crew had rowed 35 miles
distance, when a tug picked them up.
Tho Ha Ting is a particularly
good boat, having been brought from
Hong Kong for tlio northern trade
about eight months ago. Her esti
mated value is $240,000.

has been discovered in the steamer's

loss. Captain Gosso, who was in
command, was considered a most care

Donahue has received a lettor from
Pat Crowe, naming tlio terms on
which ho will surrender. Tlio letter
came in the care of an Omaha news
paper in which it is published, and
covers Jo closely written pages of
manuscript. Tho postmark is illeg
ible, but the letter wns mailed at 8
o'clock in tho morning, and reached
this city at 8 o'clock in tho evening
of thatday,indicating thftt it had not
traveled a Jong distance. In tho let
ter Crowo agrees to givo himself up
and stand trial for the kidnapping of
Eddie Cudahy, providing he is not
locked up until a jury shall adjudge
lm guilty. He' says ho is unable to
furnish bond in excess of $500, and
demands that bail be fixed in that
sum.
Chief Donahue expresses himself
as satisfied that the letter camo from
Crowe. Donahue has known Crowe
for several years, is acquainted with
his manner of handwriting and stylo
expression. The Chief also re
ceived a letter from Crowe's uncle at
Manchester, la., submitting similar
terms for Crowe's surrender, which
