Oregonlnri Notwithstanding the great ex pansion of the dairying business in this region of late, the supply of i .. t ... 1 "uer is not equal to tlie demand, and Eastern butter is finding its I way to tins market afjain. Last year there was no Eastern butter orougnt nere, but tlie long spell of dry weather last summer had the effect of lessening the output, and I the population of the city has been increasing rapidl, consequently Eastern butter will have to be im ported. Last spring, when the supply of butter bepan to exceed the demand, a large vuantity- -some 150,000 pounds was bought up and put in cold storage. This has been nearly all disposed of already, and as the present output of the dairies is not enough to supply the demand the shortage will have to be made good by Eastern butter. Eggs of late have been scarce and several cailoads have been sent from the East, but none of them have come here, so far as is known. With eggs at 25 cents a dozen in Portland and 16 cents a dozen in Chicago, there is a good margin for importers. After harvest, the out put of eggs always increases, and it is said that there will be more chickens engaged in laying eggs in this section this fall than ever before. It is highly desirable that Oregon should produced enongh eggs and butter for home consumption, at least. DIVIDE ITEMS. ..Georgc.Barlaw..has, nearly .com pleted his new house and Mr. Roy Coffin's residence is well under way. Mr. Wheeler and family of Sius- law were visiting Mr. and Mrs. B. H. A heavy ram Saturday and Sun day made tlie roads around here pretty muddy. Quite a crowd from Divide at tended the dance below Alca last night. NOTICE FOR PUBLICATION.
