On Sunday last George W.
Iloyd received a dispatch from Ihe
secretary of the Bohemia Gold
Mining Company conveying orders
for the immediate shutdown of the
company's property and to stop all
further outlay. It struck Mr.
Iloyd like a bolt from a clear sky,
for everything in connection with
the company's operations had been
running. very smoothly and, as was
fondly supposed, to the entire satis
faction pf all concerned in that en
terprise. It will be some little
time before full reason for the sud
den and peremptory order will be
known at this end of the company's
business, but it is hoped that it
will be nothing more serious than
that which has twice before hap
pened on a violent change ol ad
ministration. It is most earnestly
hoped that a change will not have
to be made just at this time, for
the money power has always with
drawn its capital from business en
terprises for a time at least until
new conditions and new confidence
can be fully formed.
News this week from the Helena
Consolidated M. and M. Co. is very
flattering, they having run into a
shute of fine free ore that carries
large values and big volume and
which will enable the company to
operate its mill steadily all winter.
The company is now laying in sup
plies for the winter, the aggregate
to be about twenty tons and Joe
Cole, the fast freighter, expects to
get the supplies all delivered at the
company's property in the next two
weeks while the roads are in prime
condition.
J. F. Miller of the Lost Boy near
the Ridge Hotel on the Noonday
road came in this week and brought
some fine specimens from his prop;
erty, taken from tbiee feet below
the surface, containing gold, cop
per, silver, etc. The ore is base,
but a small piece whin panned left
a fine streak of gold in the pan.
The Helms boys have struck a
vein of free milling ore on -the
Mystery claim on the Ridge. They
are now in 160 feet and will soon
cut the vein at about 175 feet below
the surface. This property is now
looking fine and will soon be in
first-class shape.
Several other properties in the
Ridge section are looking up well
and work is steadily going ahead
in their development.
