Richard Koehler is manager of Southern Pacific lines in Oregon. Nothing is said as to what is to become of Manager Koehler, but the statement that his position is to be abolished leaves it is be inferred that he will re tile from the company's service. Coupled with the story that Koeh ler's position is to be abolished is the statement that that the position of general superintendent"'' is to be revived and that J. H. Herbert may be honored with this title. The Eugene Rambler baseball team met defeat at the hands of the Grants Pass Alerts on July 4th on a score ol 7 to 2, and the next day the Ashland team defeated them the score being 2 to 3. Grants Pass defeated Ashland, shutting them out and making 6 scores. All three games were played at Grants Pass. The fall grain harvest has begun in a few places in the Willamette valley and the crop is extra promis ing, while in Eastern Oregon the few hot days of the week, follow ing as they did a protracted cool and windy spell, have been unfa vorable, and the grain is not filling as well as usual, and the opinion prevails that in Umatilla and the neighboring counties the crop will be somewhat short of former ex pectation. A sweet girl graduate thus de scribed the manner in which a goat butted a boy out of the front yard in the near neighborhood: "He hurled the previous end of anatomy against the boy's afterward with an eagerness and. velocity which, backed by the goats avoirdupoise, imparted a momentum that was not relaxed until the instigator was landed on terra firraa, beyond the pale of goat jurisdiction." Some of the papers in speaking of the Alaskan flag epesode have been pleased to identify Geo. M. Miller by speaking of him as a brother .of Joaquin Miller, the "Poet of the Sierras." Hereafter we may identify Joaquin Miller with perfect propriety 1 by alluding to him as-a "brother of Geo. M. Miller,- theButis'i flag loweixrof Alaska." The Oregonian scored a victory in the circuit court of Lane county in the suit for $25,000 damages re cently instituted against it by B. F. Harvey, the railway brakeuiau. The court held that the service of the papers was faulty, having been served on the route agent of the Oregonian at Eugene. It is said the case will be begun in Mult nomah county next time, The Knights of Pythias Lodge, of Eugene, are holding a field meet at Baugs' park near Eugene today.
