C. H. Park, who has bonded the Treasure mine in the Blue Rivef
district, formerly the Lone Star property is rapidly pushing the devcl
opment work. Frank Stewart left Eugene Tuesday with a four-horse
load of steel rails for the tunnel which has reached a considerable
length. Prospects are good for n big rush of miners and prospectors
into the district as soon as the snow disappears. Eugene Register.
Treasury Department, Bureau of the Mint at Washington, D. C.
has recently published a volumn of 435 pages, giving the production of
gold and silver in the United $tates for the year 1899. It is very in
structive, The returns lor this country have been carefully obtained
through officials and special agents of this bureau, and the aggregate of
precious metals reported has been actually traced from production to
market.
There arc also statistics for foreign countries which have been ob
tained from official sources.
The production of gold in the U. S. for the calender year 1899 was
$71,053,400. The production oi silver for the same jear was $32,858,
700. The production of each state and territory is given in detail.
That of Oregon being $1,467,379 in gold and $187,932 in silver.
There is also a description of each of the mining districts in the va
rious states and territories. It says of the Bohemia Mining District:
"The Bohemia district lies partly in Southern Lane and Northern
Douglas counties, and until within the last year or two was very little
known. However it bids fair to become one of prominence in the near
future, on account of the extraordinarily strong and prominent system
of fissure veins, and its unqualified mining facilities. The great por
phyry dikes traversing the district for miles throiich the andesite for
mation, the numerous fissure veins that can be readil traced across the
entire district, the high altitude attained by some of its peaks, covered
with an andesite capping heavily impregnated with iron, all tend to
prove its volcanic origin and indicate unusual depth for its many min
eralized lodes. From the precipitous nature of the formation, develop
ment work can be accomplished by drifting and cross cutting without
the heavy costs of hoists, pumps, fans, etc., which are incident to oper
ations in some of the districts in the state."
This is the best description, considering its brevity, I have seen of
the Bohemia District.

LANE COUNTY LANDS.
caTbf Clackamas county, vfras in the
city Saturday, and says he has been
kept buster during the last two
months than ever before in his life
locating Eastern timber-seekers fr
government land. He states that
cruisers in other sections of the
state that he has seen, report hav
ing all they could do also, and ex
pect the run to be heavier during
the summer months.
"Representatives ofcapital have
been poking about, too," says Mr.
Meredith, "and I acted as guide
for a party this month who said
they had $100,000 to invest pro
viding they could find ands that
suited them. After making a
thorough investigation of Clatsop
county, they left for Lane, and will
work from there into. Douglas.
Lane county having more timber
land than a-ny other county in the '
state will probably take up a great
deal of their time if they prospect it
thoroughly, but they expressed
themselves as beiug astounded at
the quantity and quality of the
Clatsop timber, and said they
would return before they left for
their homes in Saginaw, Mich,
