Lloyd, the mining engineer and superintendent of the Bo hemia Gold Mining Co., has leased the Benson hotel at the foot of the hill on the county road to Bohemia, and has placed in charge of the culinary department Mr. and Mrs. Joe Miller of this city. Travelers on this road will be well cared for. A three shift crew of 8 men are pushing development work on the Bohemia Gold Mining'Co's., property at the foot of the hill on the Bos ton claim. They are now in 75 feet and entering the ledge spotted with galena, and it is likely to be as they thought at the start a very large body of low grade concentrating ore. The company are determined to know what they have in the Boston ridge country and they are going about it in a systematic and thorough manner. It is the opinion of a Nugget man that if more companies with the means and enterprise of this one were operating in our district, renewed life and activity would be the order of the day. Instead of the dismal howl of the coyotes and wolves, there would be heard steam whistles and the dropping of heavy stamps on Bohemia's high grade ores. RICH STRIKU IN TII15 VESUVIUS. Albert Ziniker came into town Monday afternoon with some very rich specimens ot ore which they have lately struck in the Vesuvius mine on l?airview mountain. The ore is of a base character with free gold sprinkled nil through and through and is one beautiful shining mass, with wires of gold from one half to one inch in length. This ore comes from a depth of about 350 feet and certainly goei far to prove the I permanency and richness ot the veins in Bohemia district, showing as it I does such a very rich deposit of free gold mingled with the base ore. I The Vesuvius, owned by the Graber Bros. & Ziniker is one of the best I known mines in the camp and its history from its earliest development ' up to the present time would make an interesting book. The German I boys have been steadily developing this property for years, and now Ifltntv Hirtiin fr!rtr1c v-nts-titA itt1i tlium in TiJl; fVtoIf Intncft n n A ? rVl cf strike. Late development work on the Contention claim on Jackass ridge, about one half mile from the Mustek miue is proving most sarisfactory. At a depth of about 25 feet on the vein, a cross cut tunnel has been run 30 feet from wall to wall, proving conclusively that the vein at this point is 30 feet wide. Assay values from the first 10 feet on this cross cut shows no value; the next 5 feet assay value Si 1.20; the next 5 feet $2300; the next 5 feet $17.62; and the last 5 feet $4 62. This property is owned by the Bohemia Gold Mining Co., Geo. W. Lloyd, superin tendent. They also own an adjoining claim, the Victor, extending down the ridge to City Creek where it is now almost assured that the company will during the coming season erect a stamp mill. U.he Bohemta Gold work, a'ncl erect their own Stamp mills, and it is to be hoped that the Contention claim continue to show up just such values as are now 111 sight and that auother mill will be pounding ore on City Creek early in the season. Reports for last month show that there were produced in the district during that month -48,-700'tons of ore, which yielded $2,068,000 in gold bullion. C. H. Park has returned from his hurried eastern trip to New York ! and Boston. Mr. Parks savs "he never seen money more plentiful for mining enterprises, he said it is considerably more difficult to find good property, then to find money to buy them." Mr. Park is now in the Blue River country to examine the property he is opening up there. The Statist, of London, expresses a belief that silver will perma nently command higher prices than have prevailed during these latter years, due to the increase in the world's normal consumption of the metal. It states that the Indian government is pledged to purcha re 50,000,000 ounces of silver annually; that the demand from China will be greater than has been hitherto, and that the smelting combination in the United States will help to raise the price paid for silver. S. C. Sparks of Blue River was in Eugene yesterday on business. When seen by a Register reporter Mr. Sparks said the Blue River mines were bound to show greater activity this season than ever before in their history. The mines have reached a stage of development -where a town is' needed to furnish inimedate supplies to the miners, mills and prospectors. Last year it will be remembered the town of Blue River was laid off and placed on the market". Already a number of lots have been sold and there is now a renewed demand for property there that promises to put the town to the front at once. Blue River city is ad mirably situated on the batiks of Blue River and besides becoming a good business point it is also an ideal place for summer residences. Register. . A great excitement exists on Josephine creek nnd at Keirby, about 30 miles south of Grants Pass, by the finding of n very rich, quarts ledge alongside ot old placer ground. The ledge has been tracgd over 300 feet and appears to be from 5 to 10 feet wide. They have in a fevy days taken out in rock about $8000, and from present indications the whole vein is very rich. The rock that was seen at Kerby is literally covered with gold, and from that already taken from panning and mor taring it will go at least $25,000 to the ton. They drilled-one hole on the ledge some 18 inches deep with a inch drill, and from the dust taken from the drilling secured $8.50 in gold dust. The discovery was made by Geo. Bour and Tommy Johnson. Josephine Creek, where this rich find has been discovered, is one of the richest' placer districts in Josephine county. Oregon Mining Journal. , ., , MIGROBESI .MICROBES!
