S. T. Co., put into effect a new
time table. However the only
change in the passenger trains is
that the iiorthlxHiiul passenger train
due to arrive nt Cottage drove at
12:23 is. under Ihe new schedule
now due to arrive at 1:21 p. m.
The reason tjlven for this new
change Is thnt this train fomncrly
left San Francisco at such an early
hour that It wan inconvenient for
passengers, and therefore the train
leaving; there in the evening carried
more than its proportionate share of
passengers, and the change in
time is for the purpose of equaliz
ing the business between the two
trains.

Last Friday night being the
regular night for installing of
offiiicrs a public installation was
decided upon, audVouie .10 friends
were invited to ic present. At the
close of the installation, which was
very nicely done, a bountiful lunch
was served, for which the ladies of
the Kastcrn Star deserve special
mention. The remainder of the
.evening was spent in social con
' verse and a general good time.

It was a small but appreciative
audience that greeted Dr. David
Star Jordan at Martin's hall
Wednesday evening. The doctor
delivered his famous lecture on
"The Mood of the Nations," and
his discourse was a creation of
thought along lines new' to the
most of bis hearers and awakened
considerable interest which re
sulted in considerable street argu
ment the following day pro and con.

public School will be a lecture by

"Crossing the Century Line." This
talented gentleman will speak here

arriving after a five years, absence
in Gilliam county, near Lone Rdck,

Many substantial donations were
tendered, thus proving the high
esteem and regard the congregation
l"ve for their pastor and his
estimable wife. At 12 in. the
church bell pealed forth the begin
ning of the new year and century.
At the Christian Church a series
of revival meetings are being held,
presided over by Kvaugelist
Stevens and wife. A special
feature of these meetings is the
singing by Mrs. Stevens, who is
also the leader of the choir.
At the I. 0. 0. F. hall a merrv
crowd of young people enjoyed
themselves as only young people
can with games and social converse
and music until the New Year
dawned in all its brightness.
At the residence of George Lea
another merry crowd watched the
Old Year out and the New Year in.
At Martin's hall the St Valentine
Circle No. 121, Women of Wood
craft gave an invitation dance.
Music was furnished by the Jones
& lillis string baud, assisted by the
famous corouetist Charles Cochran,
and was rdl that could be desired.
The ladies of this circle are well
known entertainers and upon this
occasion exerted themselves to
make this one of the social events
of the season, their success in which
is vouched for by those in attend
ance. Another dance was given at the.
Masonic hall, the music for .which
was furnished by our home talent,
the M. W. A. orchestra. This
orchestra is establishing quite a
reputation with the dancing public
and admirers of first class up-to-date
imuic. A jolly lot of dancers
whiled away the fleeting hours
until 2:50 a. in.
