NO. 51
THE 20th CENTURY.
The talk about when the cen
tury ends and another begins is
past at this time, but it is worth
noting that when the new century
begun January 1, there would come
with it some novelties: It will
have 24 leap years, the greatest
number possible. February will
have five Sundays three times,
1920, 1948, and 1996. The earliest
possible date on which Easter can
occur is March 12. The last time
it occurred on that date was 18 18.
The latest that Easter can occur is
April 25. It will occur but one
time on that date in the coming
century, 1943. The middle day' of
the century will be January 1, 1951.
There will be 330 eclipses' during
the coming century. There will
be eight solar eclipses visible in the
United States in 1918, 1923, 1925,
r945. 1954. 1979. 1983 and 1994.
There will be no transit of Venus
until 2004. If there is a child now
living who will see all these oc
currences he will be blessed with
long years. Anyway it is safe to
affirm that no person who reads this
item will see the solar eclipse in
1994-
BEAT OUT OF AN INCREASE OF HIS
PENSION.
A Mexican war veteran and promi
nent editor writes: "Seeing the. ad
vertisement of Chamberlain's Colic,
Cholera and Diarrhoea Kemedy, I atn
reminded that as a soldier in Mexico in
'47 and M8, 1 contracted Mexican diar
rhoea and this remedy has kept me
from getting an increase in my pension
for on everv renewal a dose of it restores
tpe." It is unequalled as a quick cure for
diarrhoea and is pleasant and safe totake.

FROM C. F. PATTERSON.
The following personal letter to
the editor of this paper will be of
interest to many of Mr. Patterson's
friends in this place:
Burke, Idaho, Dec. 24, 1900.
As I am now permanently lo
cated here, will ask you to pleaee
send the Nugget to this address.. I
arrived here on the 23rd and begun
work on the. afternoon of the 24th,
so you see I did not loose much
time after my arrival in securing
work. Am getting $3.50 per day,
and pay only $35.00 per month for
board and lodging, so you see that
wages are better here than in Bo
hemia. So far I like the country
very much; there is plenty of
money, and everyone seems happy.
Yesterday afternoon two men
were killed and another badly in
jured, caused by carelessness on
their part. While working a ma
chine drill they drove into a "miss"
containing several sticks of powder,
which exploded, with the result as
stated. In looking at their mangled
remains I was forcibly reminded of
what I barely escaped in Bohemia
last summer. ) '
The weather here s very nice at
present, but am told that in the
forejpart of November the ther-
Ltnometer registered eight degreas
below zero.
Give my kind regards to all in
quiring friends and don't forget to
send the Nugget to my address.
Yours Truly
C. F. Patterson.
OLD PEOPLE MADE YOUNG.
J. O. Sherman, the veteran editor of:
the Vermontville (Mich,) Echo, has dis
covered tho romurkable secret of keep

avoided Nervousness, Sleeplessness, In
digestion, Heart trouble, Constipation
and Rheumatism, by using Eleotrlo
Bitters, and he writes: "It can't bo
praised too highly. It gently stimulates
t)io ktndoye, tones the stomach, aids
digestion, and gives a splondld appetite.
It has worked wonders for my wifo and
mo. It's a marvellous remedy for old
