J I Taylor and daughter Mra
Belle Hare went to Portland last
week on receiving news of Mr.
Hare's death.
Grant Harrison and Harry and
Oscar McDolewent down on the
Umpqua last week returning Sun
day. The county rock crusher is
crushing rock near the school
house. The roads here need the
rock as much as any road in Ore
gon. Alec Wright while at work on
the addition to Mr Harrison's house
had the misfortune to fall and
sprain his wrist.
George Barlow is putting up a
house on his ranch here.
Andrew Turner has moved into
the house formerly occupied by
Mr Burket and Prank Turner hag
moved into his "brother's house.
Mr. and Mrs DeSpaiu went to
Corvallis last week.
There are now 41 pupils enrolled
in this school ami everything
is progressing nicely.
Cars from railroads as far east as
New York and as far south as
Louisiana can be seen in trains
going through here.

The City Council met pursuant to call

After the previous minutes were read
and approved and routine business dis

The water committee reported an
abundance of water on hand.
Three ordinance bills wero passed
fixing and declaring tax assessments for
street improvements. -

Strikes occur under all adminis
trations, but under the republican
administration the strikes are for
higher wages and the working men
usually get the increase demanded.
But under democratic administra
tions the strikes are against reduc
tion of wages, and the working men
usually have toaccept the reduc
tion. In China, a free silver country,
millions of people live in boats,
principally upon rats, rice dnd fish
diet. Bryan is trying t to induce ua
to do the same. '
