C. L. Johnton, recently from Cripple Creek, who visited the Bohemia district .
last week with Dr. Oglcsby and Mcl Warnei of tho Lost Slipper group, .returned
to tflwn Monday and reports himself well pleased with what he saw of Boheinhi
mine. Mr. Johnson has gone on to Salem, where ho will establish his family
permanently before again entering the district. He asserts that there is a bright
future ahead of Bohemia.
E. 8. Adams, the well-known mining man who has during the past year
become substantially interested in Bohemia, has just returned from u business
trip to Portland, where he has perfected arrangements to erect and operate a
smelter in Bohemia camp. The smelter will go upon tbc property recently pur
cbased by him from Young, Jenks and Iliggins at the foot of Elephant mountain.
It will be of Unity tons capacitydaily and will be provided with charcoal ovens and
that fuel will be used in its operation. Mr. Adams statcti that ho expects the
plant to be in operation by the last of July, as the plant has already been ordered
from tho factory.
John Peterson, Godfrey Graber, John Brundand Andrew Brund, of Bohemia,
who came out some weeks ago fully determined to try the season in the Cape
Xome countiy, upon getting to Seattle found that they could not procure tickets
owing to the great rush to that section at tho present time. The gentlemen re
turned Monday and have again gone back into the Bohemia district. In all
probability tli'ey will give up the trip for this season, as to go the next oppor
tunity would not insure them p'assagc before next July, which would make them
altogether too late to prospect in Nome this season.
It is authentically stated by parties who arc well acquainted with Cripple
Creek people that within a month from now Bohemia district will receive visits
from many mining men from Colorado, who for some time have had their eyes
turned this way. It has long been known that in the estimation of Colorado
mining men Bohemia is considered the richest district in tho northwest, and th
lay is near at hand, if reports arc to he relied upon, when thousands of dollars of
Colorado money will seek investment in Bohemia mines.
The smelter which is soon to be erected under the supervision of E. S. Adams-
will be highly appreciated by every property owner in Bohemia, as it has long
been needed ill the district. Such etToits in tho matter of bringing the district
to tho front and placing it in the right light before the mining world wilt do
much to encourage mining men and men with capital to look our way.
