BOHEMIA NUGGET. C. J. HOWARD EDITOR Kaiercri t law ' OWf Omtt tuWrfptlitn prti-e. !., In laiiw. Aitt rrt(. hip rmt mart known r application. Friday, Fkb. 23, 1900. Uncle Harry Kincaid's Stat Journal makes a great howl abou the legal notices for pubttcatkM being published in republicai paper, insinuating that no matter how viciously the officials of the present a Itninistration shall beat tacked by anti-republican papers that the patronage of the land offio should be equally divided, bssinj his assertion upon the grounds that "When the democrats had the lam office at Roseburg they divided tht land notices about equally be tween the republican and demo crat papers. "The State Journn (Uncle Harry's papeO a lepublicai paper, received about as much lane office advertising as the Guard, r democratic paper." It is hardb necessary to dispute Mr. Kincaii because he is wise and learned ii all things, but it is more thai: probable that his memory failed him in this particular. N republican received any patron age from the Roseburg Land Offio under the democratic administra tion in question, unless the demo cratic administration had some pul on it. If the State Journal received an equal amount of advertising frort the Roseburg Land Office at that time, the officials either had 01 thought they had some pullupor Uncle Harry's sheet, and eventf happening later on, occasion one to believe that the democratic ad ministration of which the venerable editor of the Journal speaks so pa tronizingly, bad a long string from the land office hitched to the Journals editorial desk. It would be interesting to know how many other republican papers re ceived an equal share of the land office publicat'ons. The Register was a republican paper at the time the land office affairs were in the hands of the democrats but it didn't get any of the democratic swag The trouble with the very able editorial writer of the Journal is that he is on the lence and while there he can't cut a slice of public patronage, and he has placed him self in such a peculiar situation that it is hardly safe for him to get down on either side. Again the aged editorial brother was feasted at the public crib for four long years, and he should not feel cut up over a little falling off of public patronage. i Aiodc the lliiiiws.
