harmony exists, each
feeling it his plain duty to abide by
the vote of the nominating conven
tion. This is as It should be and
every voter as well as candidate for
nomination should take it upon
himself to stay by the choice of th e
couventlou, not In one instance but
in each and evtry one. This is
good politics, and its a sure
winner. Hon. A. C. Jennings is
highly spoken of for county judge.
Scott, Page and Hawley are pos
sible candidates for the office of
sheriff. Dick Burton for assessor
is again talked of. For treasurer,
T. T. Row'aud. 'Geo. F. Craw, of
mf
Eugene, M. Gilstrap ofSpriugfield,
and Mr. Hill of Richardson pre
cinct, are mentioned. The office
of county school superintendent has
three takers, Professors Hunt, Orton
and W. W. Allingham. Messrs.
Robt. Huston. E. F. Chapman of
Eugene and Jas. Hemenway of
Cottage Grove are said to be on
the tapis for representative houors.
Hon. S. H. Friendly of Eugene
and Hon. L. S. Moorhead of Junc
tion City are mentioned for joint
senator. They are both good men
and should either receive the nomi
nation and election, they would
make a record of which their con
stituency would be proud.

J, W. Carter of Josephine county.
When ever a new law goes into
effect, there is apt to be more or
less misconstruction and misunder
standing of it. It is quite possible
that when the vote of the state is
counted it will be demonstrated
that considerable misunderstanding
regarding the register law, has pre
vailed, not only with the voters but
also with the various registers ap
pointed throughout the county.
Every person acting in this official
capacity should take particular
pains to read up and post himself
on the law and the blank forms
used, to avoid mistakes and
diminishing the vote of the state.
The law Is plain also the blank
forms. All that is required is a
careful reading.
Attorney A. C. Woodcock of this
county Is said to be in the field for
congressional honors against Con
gressman Tongue's reuominatlon.
While we do not advocate a change,
and honestly think that a change
at the present time would be a se
rious mistake and are perfectly well
satisfied with the efficiency of Con
gressman Tongue, still we admit
that if a change is to be made, the
nominee should be a Lane county
man, and A C. Woodcock should
be that man.
S. L. Moorhead, editor of the
