After a brief reflection on the solemn tho ight of death and after listening to a few encomiums upon the rectitude of life and character of our deceased Bro. Whereas, It has pleased the su preme Architect of the Universe by death our worthy brother, who de parted this life at Cottage Grove, Oregon on Aug. 27th last and whose remains were tenderly laid to rest in Masonic cemetery of that city by our true and brotherly fraternity, therefore be it Resolved, That by the death of Bro. Johnson society loses a gener ous, warm hearted and honest man, his neighbors a veritable ex-J ample of a sacrificing patient and hopeful citizen, and this lodge as well as the order in general a pure, zealous and abiding Mason. Resolved, That Cottage Grove Lodge No. 51 be and it hereby is tendered our heartfelt thanks, for the constant care of this our so journing brother during his sick ness, death and burial. Resolved, That in token of the loss our lodge has sustained by the death of Bro. Johnson the lodge room be draped with the usual ensign of mourning for the space of thirty days. Re solved that the foregoing pre amble and resolution be spread upon the records of Clinton Lodge and that a copy thereof be trans mitted to Cottage Grove Grove Lodge No. 51 of Oregon and also one furnished to the Clinton Times and Weeklo Calumet of this city and to the papers at Cottage Grove. It will require about fifty thousand enumerators to take the , census and their work must be finished in one month's time, or by the first week in July 1900 That means that about seventy-five million people must be recorded in thirty days, or at the rate of tvyd and a half million a day. The rate will be even greater than this how ever, for in towns and cities( of eight thousand inhabitants the enumeration must be completed within two weeks. The enumer ators will not be permitted to have any assistance iti the work. It must be done by them in person, except in such sections of the country as contain a great many foreigners, where the employment of inter preters will be allowed, as other wise it would be next to impossible to secure the proper data. The enemerators will be paid for the services in accordance with the upon to do. Junction Times. On account of the difference in the legal weight of a bushel of oats Oregon gets a black eye in reports of the average yield per acre. In this state 36 pounds are required to j make a bushel, while in other l states generally the standard is 32 pounds. The standard ought to be changed in Oregon to conform to that used by other states as the ex isting standard is confusing and somewhat disadvantageous to ducers.
