Dedicated to Carey Underwood Died
September 11, 1SIW.
There's vacant place in tht lnusolioUI ,
Anil an empty chair and bod,
And u sweet loving face is missing
For dear little Carey is dead;
There's a vacant place at the table,
And the eyes ho bright and fair,
And thu form so loved and cherished
Is missed ut the evening prayer.
There's a vacant place at the window,
And n winning voice is gone;
And the laugh, the smile, and footstep
And the bird-like warblinga flown.
There's a vacant place in tlio household,
But far in the realms above,
Little Carey, with a choir of Angels
la warbling the Saviors love.
There's a vacant place in the household
There's a vacant place up there,
A place by the side of our darling,
And a crown of glory to wear.
And our eyes all love-lit are beaming,
And our hearts beat high with joy,
When the Lord sees fit to remove us
Home to the arms of our boy.

The condition of public thorough
fares is generally a fair criterion by
which to judge of the development
nf snnnri nublic soirit in the cora-

munities in which they are found.
The wretched raggedness ot our
county roads is too frequently the
subiect of unhappy comment and
too infrequently the object of
proper attention. No community
can truthfully boast of well
balanced progress until its roads
are in excellent condition. North
