1899, Claude Branton will get his
just deserts.
A woman was electrocuted in
the state of New York the other
day. She was convicted upon the
charge of murdering her step
daughter, and the govenor of the
state, Roosevelt declined to com
mute the sentence to life imprison
ment He did right. If she had a
just trial and was fairly convicted
of the crime of which she was
charged, she should suffer the
penalty, the some as any other
murderer.
The Booth-Kelley Lumber Co.

county courthouse, will be fittingly

splendid building one thar reflects

which the taxpayers of Lane county
can well be proud.
Dr. T. W. Harris, one of
county's staunchest men
elected mayor of Eugene last
day. Dr. Harris will fill the

names of our brave soldiers is
thrown aside by the editor who
would use them as a political wedge
to apply against the administration,
which he would hold responsible
for the cause that has led to their
deaths. Fortunately other people
do not see things as does this man,
and his frenzied assertions and con
sequently carry with them but little
