In her third year as the leader for the
North Douglas volleyball program,
Emily Reed and her team clinched a
league title the evening before they
hosted fifth-ranked Creswell on
senior night.
“This is actually my first league title.
The past two years we came in second
to Days Creek,” said Coach Emily
Reed. “And it feels fantastic.”
Creswell had just come off an emo-
tional five-set victory against rival
Pleasant Hill and was ready to clash
against a tough North Douglas squad.
The Warriors entered the night
ranked third in 1A with their only
loss coming against a 2A school and
they were hoping to pull a big upset
last Tuesday.
Creswell would come out with the
victory over North Douglas in three
very competitive sets.

The Lions football pro-
gram had to forfeit their last
two games against Elmira
and Marshfield because of
COVID-19 issues within the
program.
Top-five-ranked
Marist
rolled into town fresh off of
a tough loss against another
top 4A team in the state, Cas-
cade. The Spartans’ offense
has been rolling this season
as they average over 45 points
per game and continued their
stout attack against the Lions
last Thursday. Marist would
get back on the winning side,
however, as they rolled past
Cottage Grove 56-16.
Marist scored on all of their
possessions in the first quarter
as they jumped out to a huge
28-0 lead over the Lions who
started to get a bit of offen-
sive momentum at the end of

Elkton and Gilchrist saw 10 lead
changes in their hard-fought game
that saw the Elks come out on top
41-38 on Saturday.
Elkton was down 31-28 at the half,
but the offense in the second half
proved to be too much for Gilchrist
as the Elks earned the come from be-
hind win.
“It was a great game. I mean they
(Gilchrist) didn’t play like a 1-4
team,” said Elkton Coach Jeremy
Lockhart. “They played just as good
as us or better than us at times. That’s
for sure they came out firing right
away and it was a back-and-forth
game.”
Next week Elkton gets to continue
their season in a modified version of
6-man football playoffs as they host
Jewell next Friday Oct. 22 at 3 p.m.
