(541) 942-0555 By Damien Sherwood dsherwood@cgsentinel.com WEATHER DAMIEN SHERWOOD/COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL Residents on a portion of Taylor Avenue are on the hook for improvements to sidewalks adjacent to their homes af- ter the Cottage Grove City Council voted unanimously to issue a sidewalk order on Monday night (Oct. 11). Eleven homes are included as part of the order, which covers a stretch from South 10th Street east along Taylor Avenue approximately 675 feet. The city council and staff had received two separate com- plaints about the conditions of the sidewalk prior to the vote. On Sept. 24 and 25, 2021, complaints about the sidewalk stated that two senior community members were reported to have fallen on the sidewalks. One fall occurred just last month, during which the senior tore his pants, sustained a knee wound and hit his head, prompting family to take him to the hospital. At the last regular city council meeting, council and staff discussed this issue and City Manager Richard Meyers told council that staff would present a possible resolution to this issue. In the meantime, city staff walked the area of concern and noticed several areas of disrepair and missing driveway approaches — as well as a rolled curb section along this section of Taylor Avenue. Recently, the Chamber of Commerce’s Tour- ism Committee has been hard at work finding /CGSentinel @CGSentinel ways to promote such interests for residents and tourists alike. “The committee works on promoting all the positive aspects of Cottage Grove to tourists along the I-5 corridor and further beyond,” said Stephen Lawn, chair of the Tourism Committee. “We even reach out to Eugene-Springfield.” One recent project has been the Explore Cot- tage Grove video series, which is offering virtual tours of Cottage Grove attractions. The idea for the video series came about from the committee’s discussions around the con- cepts of self-guided tours and PBS-style travel shows. Box 35, Cottage Grove, OR 97424 By Damien Sherwood dsherwood@cgsentinel.com The Cottage Grove City Council threw its support behind a Bohe- mia Park development project on Monday (Oct. 11) as it voted unan- imously to authorize backing for a Competitive Tourism Grant appli- cation. Bohemia Foundation, a local nonprofit organization, has re- quested to partner with the City of Cottage Grove to apply for the grant to fund capital improvements at Bohemia Park. The nonprofit holds the title and ownership of Bohemia Park while the City of Cottage Grove is its partner in the park’s operation and maintenance through a 99-year lease designating the park for pub- lic use. The Economic Development Administration (EDA) is currently accepting applications nationwide for EDA Competitive Tourism Grants under the American Res- cue Plan Act’s Travel, Tourism, and Outdoor Recreation program.
