These service members arrived on Friday, Sept. 3, at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield; Sacred Heart Medical Center, Univer- sity District in Eugene; and Cottage Grove Com- munity Medical Center. They are in addition to the first group who were welcomed to Sacred Heart Medical Center at River- Bend on Monday, Aug. 30. The service members will serve at these hos- pitals through Thursday, Sept. 30. “We welcome each of these service members and offer our sincere thanks for the support they are providing our physicians, nurses and al- lied support teams, who are working so hard at our hospitals at such a critical time in the pandemic,” said Alicia Beymer, chief administrative officer at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center, Univer- sity District and Cottage Grove Community Medi- cal Center. National Guard mem- bers are serving in a range of areas at Sacred Heart at RiverBend: • Data entry and clerical work to support River- Bend’s leadership role in Region 3, which includes hospitals in Lane, Douglas and Coos counties. • Passing trays and working on tray lines for Food Services • Cleaning beds at peak discharge times for Envi- ronmental Services • Delivering supplies They will assist in Food Services at the University District campus in Eugene and in Environmental Ser- vices at Cottage Grove. Plans are underway for ad- ditional service members to be assigned to Peace Harbor Medical Center. KITS is an eight-week evidence-based school readiness program for children coming into kindergarten. Developed by the Oregon Social Learning Center, the pro- gram runs through the summer. South Lane School District staff manage the program, which gives children a chance to meet some of their teachers before entering school.
