LCC launches coding bootcamps
Within the last year,
the spike in demand for
skilled software developers
has increased the number
of open positions to 1.4
million. In Oregon alone,
there are nearly 1,500 open
software
development
roles in need of skilled tech
workers.
Lane Community Col-
lege (LCC) has partnered
with Promineo Tech, an
innovative provider of tech
education which aims to
make coding education
more affordable and ac-
cessible, to offer Front End
and Back End Software
Development bootcamps
to help to bridge this edu-
cational gap.
The bootcamp style
learning is designed to
focus on the skills and
methodologies that hiring
managers look for when
placing tech talent. Non-
tech students looking to
become software devel-
opers or employees in the
tech industry who want to
progress in their careers
are supported in the cur-
riculum and structure of
these bootcamps.
The virtual classroom is
set up to provide personal-
ized learning and individ-
ualized attention to help
each student rise to their
potential.
Dean
of
Extended
Learning Mark Ven Den
Hende, Ph.D. comment-
ed, “As Lane Community
College retools to establish
more Extended Learning
opportunities, Promineo
Tech is an exciting option
for community, workforce,
high school, and potential
college students to retool
with short term workforce
training linked to LCC’s
well established technical
degree programs, broaden-
ing the Lane ‘One Campus’
goal envisioned by Presi-
dent, Dr. Hamilton.”
LCC recognizes the need
for efficient tech education
in order to enhance the
workforce
development
within the state, especial-
ly as the country sees an
increase in people looking
for work, or pondering the
idea of switching careers.
Throughout the duration
of the 18-week courses,
students commit to about
20 hours a week mastering
the skills and technologies
that are necessary when
interviewing for roles such
as java developer, software
engineer, back-end devel-
oper, application developer
and front-end developer.
Focusing on the employ-
able skills makes graduates
of the program desirable
employees within the in-
dustry.
All students start classes
on Sundays, and complete
self-guided study until
their scheduled weeknight
class. These live lectures
are led by an instructor and
provide a space for small
class sizes with ample time
for micro-tailored instruc-
tion.
“The rapid economic
shift last year has creat-
ed tremendous demand
among those who want to
re-skill,” shared Nick Su-
wyn, founder of Promi-
neo Tech. “Bringing these
bootcamp programs to
Oregon is a great opportu-
nity to enhance the work-
force acceleration within
the state, specifically in the
increasingly
in-demand
field of technology. We’re
excited to work with Lane
Community College to ac-
complish this.”
The demand for skilled
developers is projected to
continue growing as it is
already labeled the fastest
growing occupation in this
decade.
Offering these special-
ized coding bootcamps is
providing the communities
in Oregon with the tools
that they need to become
employed in a time where
employment has been so
drastically affected by the
global pandemic.
Enrollment for August
and September cohorts are
currently live.

tending or offering a cod-

New fence for Family
Relief Nursery
By Sophia Edelblute
On June 19 the Rota-
ry Club of Cottage Grove
dedicated a brand new
fence at the Cottage Grove
Relief Nursery.
Rotary provided a dona-
tion of $2,000, which was
matched by the nursery to
pay for the new fence.
The fence is intended
to provide a safer, more
secure and private play-
ground for children who
“A Passport to Culinary Adventures in The Grove”
benefit from the nursery’s
many services.
Another $500 from a
business express grant
paid for general beautifica-
tion such as a new Rotary
sign, flowerbeds, gates, tree
pruning and tops for the
sandboxes.
The nursery’s main goal
is to help families in which
there is a risk or presence
of child abuse and neglect
and strengthen the families
to break the cycle.
“It not only works di-
rectly with the children in
a therapeutic way through
a classroom environment,
but it works with the whole
family... they do home vis-
its, they have parenting
classes, they really work
with the parents to give
them tools and connect
them with resources in the
community to help them
be successful,” said Rotary
Club member Diane Ha-
zen.
