COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL | MAY 13, 2021 | 7A Disaster Resilience Plan for Heritage Resources Project earns awards The student group re- sponsible for the drafting and organization of the Disaster Resilience Plan for Heritage Resources in Cottage Grove, which was recently adopted by Cot- tage Grove City Council, has received two state- wide awards recognizing the importance of their work. Oregon Heritage asked the City of Cottage Grove and its heritage partners to participate in the Heritage Resilience Plan for Heri- tage Resources Project in January 2020. Students were brought from the University of Or- egon’s Institute for Plan- ning Policy and Research (IPRE) to the project to help work collaboratively with the city’s partners to develop a citywide plan to ensure the resilience (and survival) of its heritage resources in the event of a disaster. Each heritage partner, including the Cottage Grove Museum, Cottage Grove Historical Society, Cottage Grove Genealogi- cal Society, Bohemia Min- ing Museum, and Down- town Cottage Grove, also Second round of limb pickup coming The first round of the citywide limb and tree branch pickup started May 3 and went through May 7. Residents are asked to have limbs and branches in the city street where city staff can pick them up. Branches and limbs are to be placed in on-street parking spaces along city streets. Branches and limbs must be piled so they do not block bike or traffic lanes and are no closer than 30 feet of an intersec- tion. The second and final round of limb pickup will be May 17 through May 21. For additional informa- tion, go to the city website at www.cottagegroveor.gov or call 541-767-4100 for questions. The letter, which is co- signed by the Eugene, Springfield, Florence, Oakridge and Cottage Grove chambers of com- merce, outlines four re- quests that Lane County believes will help continue to protect the public health of our communities while balancing the wellbeing of our business community. “We know that it is dif- ficult to balance protect- ing state hospital capacity and protecting the fragile recovery now underway across the state,” said Lane County Board of Commis- sioner Chair Joe Berney. “While the news that the COVID-19 risk framework may no longer be needed by the end of June is encourag- ing, many of our small busi- nesses are still struggling to survive day-to-day after facing the uncertainties created by the pandemic. The future prosperity and economic welfare of our community beyond the pandemic relies on busi- nesses surviving and be- ing in a position to thrive post-pandemic.” The four requests includ- ed in the letter are: • Increase the number of vaccines allotted to Lane County; • Direct OHA to review all current Sector Guidance for High and Extreme Risk categories against the cur- rent trends in case trans- mission with an eye toward ensuring that restrictions to commerce are aligned to where transmission is oc- curring; • Provide as much ad- vance notice to counties about risk metrics frame- work movement as possi- ble; and • Expedite the revision of the current County risk metrics framework as soon as possible. Lane County Public Health will continue to do its part to ensure the vac- cinations provided to us by Oregon Health Authority are administered as quick- ly as possible in our com- munities. Commissioners understand that statewide reopening is tied directly to widespread vaccination. As of today, Lane County has administered 276,177 COVID-19 vaccines, which represents over 52 percent of eligible adults and 44 percent of our full popula- tion.
