OSU Extension pro- grams seek to address the needs of local communi- ties such as food security, health, gardening and land stewardship. Among these, 4-H is a youth develop- ment program which gives young people hands-on learning experiences. The measure seeks to continue and expand these services by implementing a local option tax of 2.8 cents per $1,000 of assessed land value for five years. For example, a property assessed at $200,000 would be charged $5.60 per year. Note: Ballots for the May 18 Special Election are expect- ed to begin arriving as early as today. We want the community to know we continue to meet multiple times a week to plan a smaller scaled event on the third weekend of July! With lost festival revenue last year we have a tiny production budget for BMD 2021 so our annual community celebration will be different this year. This is why we’re introducing new fundraising events this year. We are making the Slabtown vs. Lemati Feud virtual & all year long. We are delighted to announce the the Covered Bridge Brewing Group will serve as Slabtown’s official watering hole/city hall & Lemati’s will be The Brewstation. We will soon introduce a year-round Feud Food Fight with participating restaurants, food trucks & coffee stands. We are introducing a new Feud competition: Ore Cart Races on our annual weekend in mid-July. At a May 6 press conference we will share details of our planning efforts to generate the smiles & special memories that earned us this special award.
