Filing deadline for Douglas County Special Election is today
The deadline to file for
special district candidacy is
today, March 18.
There are currently 217
positions open for filing.
Elections for Special Dis-
tricts in Oregon are held
every two years, in the odd
years (2019, 2021, 2023,
etc.) Generally, a term for a
Special District board posi-
tion is four years.
Individuals who wish to
file for candidacy for one
of the many Board mem-
ber vacancies existing on
fire, school, road and other
local districts, must submit
their forms (and $10 fee) to
the Douglas County Clerk’s
office no later than 5 p.m.
today.
To reduce in-person
visits, this can be accom-
plished via the postal sys-
tem also.

Additionally, the dead-
line to register to vote in the
upcoming election is 11:59
p.m. on April 27.
For those Oregon resi-
dents who are U.S. citizens
and who have a valid Ore-
gon driver’s license, permit
or DMV-issued ID card,
you can safely register on-
line at the Oregon Secretary
of State’s website: Register
to Vote in Oregon (and se-
lect the “Register to Vote”
icon).
This same link can be
used to check registration
status, change address, or to
change political parties.
If you are an Oregon res-
ident who is a U.S. citizen,
but do not have the need-
ed DMV-issued license,
permit or ID, you may still
register to vote, but you will
need to pick up an Oregon
Voter Registration Card —
or print the form, complete,
sign and return to your lo-
cal elections office.
You can also provide ei-
ther the last four digits of
your social security num-
ber or other forms of ac-
ceptable identification (see
form).
Again, to reduce in-per-
son visits, this can be ac-
complished via the postal
system also. If you do not
have access to a printer,
Oregon Voter Registra-
tion Cards can be found at
post offices and the County
Clerk Office.

Wait to act on tex relief for 2020 unemployment benefits
The American Rescue
Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA),
signed into law Thursday,
exempts up to $10,200 of
unemployment
benefits
received in 2020 per in-
dividual from taxes for
households with less than
$150,000 in adjusted gross
income.
The change will affect
thousands of Oregon tax-
payers by reducing their
2020 taxable income and
lowering their tax bill.
The Oregon Department
of Revenue recommends
that affected taxpayers
wait for further informa-
tion from the IRS and the
department before taking

Douglas County Plan-
ning Commission.
The Planning Com-
mission is a seven-mem-
ber advisory and deci-
sion-making body of

interests, geographic ar-
eas and occupations. The
term of appointment is
four years.
The recruitment will
give priority to appli-
cants who can represent
the southern and coast-
al regions of Douglas
County.
The Planning Com-
mission advises the
county on land use pro-
gram activities, serves as
the appeal body for con-
tested land use decisions
and conducts hearings
on discretionary land
use actions.

Victor Raymond Wilson, 90,
of Cottage Grove, OR passed
on March 8, 2021 from natural
causes.
Victor was born on May
30, 1930 in Fabius, NY to par-
ents Raymond Victor and So-
phie Elise (Estey) Wilson. He
served as an Army Corporal
during the Korean Confl ict.
Victor was a timber faller for
more than 60 years. He loved
his family and his dogs. Vic-
tor is survived by his children,
Pamela Wilson and David Wil-
son both of Cottage Grove, OR;
Vicki Jacobson and husband
Eric, Junction City, OR; sisters,
Noreen High, Cottage Grove,
OR; Sinclair Seevers, Drain,
OR; 7 grandchildren and 6
great-grandchildren.
