COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL Recreational razor clamming closes on central coast The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) announce the closure of ra- zor clam harvesting on the central Oregon coast. Rec- reational and commercial razor clam harvesting is now closed from Cascade Head (north of Lincoln City) to the California border for el- evated levels of the marine biotoxin domoic acid. Recreational and com- mercial razor clam harvest- ing remains open from the ODFW from B1 Columbia River to Cascade Head (north of Lincoln City). Bay clams, crab and mus- sel harvesting are open along the entire Oregon Coastline. COURTESY PHOTO ODFW Commission meeting canceled for March 20 The Fish and Wildlife Commis- sion has canceled its public meet- ing scheduled for March 20 due to concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 virus. “We want to keep employees, the public and Commissioners safe and this will help with our so- cial distancing efforts,” said Curt Melcher, ODFW Director. ODFW will keep the public and all stakeholders informed as to when the Commission meeting may be rescheduled. In addition, other ODFW-relat- ed events have been canceled or postponed. The Conservation and Rec- reation Fund (OCRF) Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for March 23 has been canceled. Big Game Auction Events: The Lewis and Clark chapter of Safari Club International (SCI) has canceled its March 14 banquet that was set to auction a statewide deer tag. The Oregon Bow Hunters in Redmond has canceled its March 14 event as well that was set to auction a Rocky Mountain goat tag. At this time, SCI and OBH are working on contingency plans for their events and how the A&H statewide big game tags will be auctioned. Lastly, the Stakeholder Team meetings for the Rogue-South Coast Multi-Species Conservation and Management Plan scheduled for March 31 in Gold Beach and April 1 in Central Point have also been canceled. In addition to fishing, these ponds also offer wildlife viewing opportu- nities and a fishing dock is available on-site. COTTAGE GROVE RES- ERVOIR: trout, warmwa- ter species Will be stocked this week with 1,917 tro- phy-size (pounder) rain- bow trout. Cottage Grove Reser- voir is south of Cottage Grove and is open to fishing all year. Lakeside boat ramp is now open. DEXTER RESERVOIR: trout Will be stocked this week with 1,597 legal-size and 2,000 trophy-size (pounder) rainbow trout. Dexter Reservoir near Lowell is visible from Hwy. 58. Boat and bank access is available from state and county parks. Parking and bank access are also available from the causeway near Lowell. Largemouth bass and some smallmouth are also available to anglers in this reservoir. DORENA RESERVOIR: trout, warmwater Was last stocked the week of March 2 with 1,500 trophy-size rainbow trout. Dorena Reservoir is east of Cottage Grove on Row River Road and is open to fishing all year. Trout and warmwater fish are available. Baker Bay boat ramp is accessible at the current reservoir elevation. | 3B JUNCTION CITY POND: trout, crappie The pond will be stocked this week with about 400 larger tro- phy trout. This pond is stocked regularly throughout the winter and spring. Anglers are allowed to keep only one trout over 20 inches as part of the five fish bag limit. MCKENZIE RIVER below Leaburg Lake (R1): trout, salmon, steelhead Will be stocked again in spring. River levels have remained consistent and fishing should remain productive. All non-adipose fin-clipped trout must be released unharmed. Check page 46 of the 2018 Sport Fishing Regulations for bait restrictions in the segment you plan to fish. Beginning Nov. 1, anglers may only use lures and artificial flies. The lower McKenzie River is open to retention of adipose fin-clipped salmon and steelhead and non-adipose fin-clipped steelhead greater than 24 inches long. A Columbia River Basin Endorsement is required for anglers tar- geting salmon and steel- head in the McKenzie. MCKENZIE RIVER above Leaburg Lake (R2): trout, steelhead Will be stocked again in spring. All non-adipose fin- clipped trout must be released unharmed. Bait is allowed from Leaburg Dam to Forest Glen Boat Ramp from April 22 – Oct 31. As of Nov. 1, anglers may use only lures and artificial flies. WILLAMETTE RIVER: catch-and-release stur- geon, steelhead Spring Chinook are now being caught in the lower Willamette, although it is early in the season and catch rates so far have been low. During the past week, a total of 1,875 anglers surveyed harvested 32 springers and released another 14 fish.
