Kiwanis donates bike helmets for local youth

Loggers, recently honored
Dick Gilkison for his 65
years as an active and con-
tinuous logger during the
association’s 50th annual
convention held Jan. 23-
25 this year at Valley River
Inn.
Gilkison was also award-
ed the association’s “Ore-
gon Logger of the Year.”
Wilbur Heath, a lifetime
resident of Cottage Grove,
was also recognized for
his dedication to the asso-
ciation during Saturday’s
lunch. Heath is a past pres-
ident of Associated Ore-
gon Loggers and a long-
time board member of the
group serving on the board
until his retirement from
logging a few years ago.

n Jan. 15, the Coast Fork Kiwanis
donated 47 bike helmets to the
Lane County Sheriff’s Office to be dis-
tributed to local children in need of
safety gear. In addition, Coast Fork
Kiwanis President Don Erich (right)
presented a certificate of apprecia-
tion to Lane County Sheriff (far right)

Grove and Creswell communities can
pick up a helmet at 13 S First St. in
Creswell. The Coast Fork Kiwanis
serve Cottage Grove and Creswell
youth and meets the first Wednesday
of the month in Cottage Grove and
the third Wednesday of the month in
Creswell. Guests are always welcome.
