Valentine,
midwife exhibits
at CG Museum
Expressions of love and
photographs of hundreds
of newborns are featured
in two exhibits currently
on display at the Cottage
Grove Museum, 147 N. H
St., in Cottage Grove.
More than 50 valentines
from the 1890s through the
1950s are on exhibit now
through February.
These valentines from
the past are exceptional-
ly intricate and fi nely de-
tailed depictions of various
images associated with
Valentine’s Day including
cherubs, angels, hearts and,
new this year, two 3-di-
mensional airplane themed
valentines.
Photographs of over
400 newborns delivered
by Cottage Grove midwife
Barbara Kaye are also on
exhibit at the museum.
Kaye practiced midwife-
ry in Cottage Grove in the
late 1970s, and donated
this collection to the muse-
um. Photographs of babies
delivered by Barbara Kaye
will be on exhibit through
the summer.
The Cottage Grove Mu-
seum is open Saturday and
Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m., or
by appointment.
Admission is free but do-
nations are encouraged.

DevNW to hold groundbreaking in CG Friday
DevNW will be holding a
groundbreaking
celebration
this Friday, Jan. 24, from 10 to
11 a.m. at 910-960 Arthur Ave.
for six community land trust
homes in Cottage Grove.
The project will be a mix
of two- and three-bedroom
homes.
This creates six new homes
that will remain permanently
affordable for the community.
More information about this
unique affordable housing com-
ing to Cottage Grove will be
presented at the groundbreak-
ing.
DevNW was created in 2019
when Neighborhood Econom-
ic Development Corporation
(NEDCO) and Willamette
Neighborhood Housing Ser-
vices (WNHS) united to expand
their impact.
For those interested in apply-
ing for homes, the application
period is open until Feb. 3. An
application demonstrates in-
terest in purchasing one of the
homes; it does not guarantee
selection.
DevNW will work with ap-
plicants to determine eligibility
and mortgage readiness.
An information session to
learn more about this opportu-
nity will be held on Jan. 28 at 7
p.m. at the Cottage Grove Com-
munity Center, 700 E. Gibbs
Ave.
All applicants will be entered
into a lottery to move forward.
Attendance at the information
session is not required to apply.

PeaceHealth Riverbend earns Chest Pain Center designation
The Oregon Heart & Vas-
cular Institute at PeaceHealth
Sacred Heart Medical Center
at RiverBend is celebrating a
major first-time recognition for
demonstrating expertise and
commitment in treating pa-
tients with chest pain.
The American College of Car-
diology in December awarded
PeaceHealth Sacred Heart at
RiverBend Chest Pain Center
Accreditation with Primary
PCI, following a rigorous onsite
assessment of the staff ’s ability
to evaluate, diagnose and treat
patients who may be experienc-
ing a heart attack.
Hospitals receiving this ac-
creditation must take part in
a multifaceted clinical process
that includes a thorough ex-
amination of care provided and
an action plan for streamlining
processes, implementing stan-
dards and adopting best practic-
es. They must meet or exceed an
array of stringent criteria, and
need to have organized a team
of doctors, nurses, clinicians,
and other administrative staff
that earnestly support efforts
leading to better patient educa-
tion and patient outcomes.
“This is another step in our
continuing efforts to optimize
patient care and outcomes,” said
Mary Kingston, chief executive,
PeaceHealth Oregon network.
“This distinction was achieved
by streamlining and improving
our processes, from the time of
admission to evaluation to diag-
nosis to treatment, all the way
through to post-discharge care
and recommendations for life-
style changes. Stringent mea-
sures are in place to assure we
are accountable to the higher
accreditation standards.”
RiverBend’s
accreditation
includes the “Primary PCI”
distinction, which means the
hospital can provide percutane-
ous coronary intervention, also
known as coronary angioplas-
ty, 24/7, 365 days a year. PCI is
a non-surgical procedure that
opens narrowed or blocked cor-
onary arteries with a balloon to
relieve symptoms of heart dis-
ease or reduce heart damage
during or after a heart attack.
According to the Centers for
Disease Control and Preven-
tion, more than 730,000 Amer-
icans suffer a heart attack each
year. The most common symp-
tom of heart attack for both
men and women is chest pain
or discomfort.
Other symptoms include tin-
gling or discomfort in one or
both arms, back, shoulder, neck
or jaw, as well as shortness of
breath, a cold sweat, unusual
fatigue, a heartburn-like feel-
ing, nausea or vomiting, sudden
dizziness and fainting. Women
are more likely to have atypical
symptoms.

Lane Transit
adds back
services in CG
Lane Transit District
(LTD) will add back full
service on Route 98 provid-
ing regular daily bus ser-
vice within Cottage Grove
beginning Feb. 2.
The Route 98 bus will
travel
from
Walmart
through the center of Cot-
tage Grove before depart-
ing for Creswell, Lane
Community College and
the Downtown Eugene Sta-
tion on all days of the week.
Adding this service on
Route 98 will have no im-
pact on the LTD Connector,
the
mobility-on-demand
pilot program in Cottage
Grove.
It continues to operate
Monday through Friday,
from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fares
for the Connector are $1
per ride through the dura-
tion of the pilot program,
and all other LTD fare is
also accepted.
Riders can schedule a
ride for the Connector us-
ing the TransLoc app on
their personal mobile de-
vice or by calling South
Lane Wheels at 541-942-
0456 ext. 1.
The Connector pilot pro-
gram has been extended
through August 2020.
Also, beginning on Feb.
2, bus riders will no longer
need to transfer EmX buses
in Springfi eld to travel to or
from West Eugene and the
Gateway area during peak
times on weekdays.
