Director’s Note
It is with a full heart and a thankful spirit
that I write this, my last article as your
Executive Director of the Cottage Grove
Chamber of Commerce. My family and
I moved to Cottage Grove from Boise,
Idaho shortly aft er Th anksgiving in 2011.
Later this month we will move back to
Idaho where my wife, Sara has accepted a
teaching position.
In preparation to write this article, I looked
back at the fi rst one I wrote as your newly
hired Executive Director in December
2011. I asked chamber members past,
present and future to introduce themselves
and tell me what was important to them
and the success of their businesses. I
thanked the people of Cottage Grove for
the warm welcome that I received when
I arrived. I thanked the chamber’s board
of directors for taking a leap of faith when
they chose to hire me for this position when
there were several other great candidates to
choose from. Last, I ventured to guess that
someday in the future, I might look back at
the decision to move to Cottage Grove and
say that it was one of the best decisions I
ever made. I had no idea at that time how
well I had chosen my words and the path
that lied ahead of me.
Moving to Cottage Grove was indeed one
of the best decisions we ever made. I’m
proud of many things that the Chamber
was able to accomplish over the last eight
years. Wherever I’ve been credited with
some measure of success, it was only due
to the work and support from great people
around me. However much I’ve given to
this community will forever be pale in
comparison to what the community has
done for me. I’ve learned and grown in
ways that are beyond measure and I will
always be grateful for the people who
supported me and my family during our
time here.
Announcing my departure is truly
bittersweet. I can’t express how much I’ve
loved my time here and my place in this
community. Th ere are so many projects
and plans that I’d like to see completed
but I know I have to let them go. I’ll miss
being involved in so many aspects of the
town’s development. I’m excited for the
opportunity and adventure that lies ahead
and I’m so thankful that the Chamber took
that leap of faith with me eight years ago. It
has been an honor and a pleasure to serve
as the Executive Director of the Cottage
Grove Area Chamber of Commerce.
