CG Walmart awards local Kiwanis $3,000 for ‘Koats for Kids’

Cottage Grove Bohemia Sunrisers Kiwanis was recently awarded a $3,000 Walmart Community Grant in support of the Kiwanis’ “Koats for Kids” project for

Local ‘Y’ seeks professionals for
expanding afterschool programs
The YMCA program
staff is responsible for the
well-being and creative
learning of children in an
afterschool program.
The Y is currently re-
cruiting staff members
to expand its afterschool
program, which was re-
cently launched at Harri-
son Elementary, to other
area schools.
The Y offers the oppor-
tunity for children to con-
tinue to grow and learn in
a safe, healthy environ-
ment, providing mentor-
ship, healthy snacks and
creative programming on
a daily basis.
Those interested in
working with kids as part
of the Y afterschool pro-
gram in Cottage Grove
can submit a resume or
inquire for more informa-
tion by sending an email

Silent Film classic ‘Nosferatu’ screening at Opal
The Opal Center
and Cottage Grove
Cinema Guild are
presenting a very
special, free show-
ing of the silent film
classic “Nosferatu”
(1922) on 16mm
this Saturday, Oct.
12, beginning at 7
p.m.
The screening will
be held in the Opal
Center for Arts and
Education.
This silent cinema
masterpiece with
influential goth-
ic themes set the
template for many
horror films that
followed.
The
program
will be preced-
ed with a reel of
kooky cartoons,
spooky shorts and
an odd newsreel.

Friends of Library to hold book sale next week
The Friends of the Cot-
tage Grove Library will be
holding a book sale at the
First Presbyterian Church
in Cottage Grove on Fri-
day, Oct. 18, from 4 to 8
p.m., and Saturday, Oct.
19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The sale will include
hundreds of books and
other media including au-
diobooks, music (LPs and
CDs) and DVDs.
This event is a fundrais-
er for the Friends of the
Library, whose mission is
to support the library and
its role in the community.
