Carousel golf tourny finds success in inaugural year The first Friends of the Cottage Grove Car- ousel golf tournament 18hole scramble was held on a beautiful Sat- urday morning, Sept 21. The weather once again was open for a success- ful event for carousel fundraising. It rained on Friday and Sunday, but on Saturday it was beautiful golf-course weather. Everyone participat- ing in the tournament and helping with the tournament expressed Cottage Grove happiness. The tourna- ment committee is most thankful to a wonderful list of first-rate raffle prizes and sponsorship of the tournament – too numerous to mention here. Comments from the golfing world were that it is a very successful first-time effort. A wonderful pulled pork lunch was served to all participants fol- lowing the tournament. Thanks to one and all who participated. EARTHLINK INTERNET HIGH SPEED INTERNET Enjoy big-time Internet speeds without spending big bucks! Football: In their third game of the sea- son last Friday, Sept. 20 the Lions (0-3) showed improvement in a 49-20 away loss to Stayton (2-1) as their young roster contin- ues to gain varsity football experience. Stayton got out to a quick lead in the first half with two big scor- ing plays, a 60-yard passing touchdown as well as a 90-yard run by their senior QB Ben Rash. “It was a game of ad- versity and it’s all about how you respond,” said coach Chad Smith. “We could’ve easily said, ‘you know there’s two big plays’ and stopped playing, but we kept going and we got ourselves back into it. But it’s those things that happen, those big plays can be a killer.” Nonetheless, the of- fense moved the ball better than the first two games, a change in kick return scheme yielded better starting field position through- out the game, and budding young quar- terback Logan Lowrey showed key improve- ments. He finished the game with two rush- ing scores and another long passing touch- down to Jacob Dunn.
