Community input sought for Wildfire Protection Plan update
For those living in or near
a forested area who are con-
cerned about the growing
risk of wildfire, Lane Coun-
ty and its partners are seek-
ing input on the county’s
Wildfire Protection Plan.
Lane County, Oregon
Department of Forestry and
other partners are updat-
ing the community wildfire
protection plan to better
reflect communities and
resources at risk of wildfire.
The electronic survey
aims to gather residents’
perceptions of wildfire risk,
what type of help is needed
and ways to fund the work.
Lane County residents in
the wildland-urban inter-
face are encouraged to take
the survey at www.lane
county.org/fireplan.
Results from the survey
will help local officials bet-
ter prioritize where to put
scarce resources. The ex-
isting community wildfire
protection plan was first de-
veloped in 2005.
That plan identified
which places were most at
risk for wildfire and helped
direct grants and commu-
nity-funded fuel reduction
projects to lower wildfire
risk around homes and
property.

1944 – 2019
Our beloved Uncle, Den-
nis Devon Willian went to be
with the Lord on March 28,
2019 aft er a short and unfore-
seen illness at 75 years of age.
Dennis was born on February
26, 1944 to John and Lau-
ra (Krisher) Willian. He was
born in Cottage Grove, and
attended the local schools in
the area, and lived most of
his life in the Cottage Grove,
Walker area. Dennis went into
the Army at a young age and
served in the Vietnam War.
Dennis was raised mainly with
his older sister Charlotte due
to the death of all his other
siblings. He spent a lot of time
as a young man with Charlotte
and her family, especially her
two nieces. Dennis really en-
joyed baking and cooking and
became a cook for Th e Village
Green Restaurant. Dennis’
life was changed aft er going
to a little Pentecostal Church
and coming to know and serve
the Lord. His happiest days
were spent attending church
services, listening to Christian
music and spending time with
his nieces. He also enjoyed
being involved in the Sunday
school and bus ministry at
the church. Later on in his life
Dennis moved from the Cot-
tage Grove area to other parts
of the state including Baker
City and Cave Junction where
he worked as a cook and last-
ly to the Hermiston, Umatilla
area. Dennis is survived by
his two nieces, Mary Cook,
(Randal) of Creswell, Ore-
gon and Candace Bermodes
(Lucky) of Stockton, CA and
two nephews. A Celebration of

to teach by example, gave voice
without speaking, to many stu-
dents, as well as his own chil-

blessed beyond measure with 6
grandchildren. While realizing
that getting older isn’t always
easy, being grandparents took
every one of those aches and
pains away, fully. Dennis’ life
was fi lled with adventure out-
side of teaching as well. He was
a licensed pilot, an avid guitar
player in his youth, enjoyed
scuba diving, taught skiing at
Willamette Pass, and loved
spending time skiing the dia-
monds in MT with his siblings.
While we were so richly
blessed by Dennis in this life,
we will continue to see him in
his own children and grand-
children, in the students whose
lives he changed forever, and

make better. A Celebration
