Going to miss Weeldreyer
Cindy Weeldreyer, former Lane
County Commissioner, retires as
secretary from Friends of the Cot-
tage Grove Carousel as of July 31.
She has served well as board
member and recording secretary
for the five-year life of the board.
As this reader remembers, she has
contributed many hours to better-
ing her community, including her
eight years of service to the coun-
ty as a commissioner; many years
of service leading various organi-
zations in Cottage Grove, such as
Beds for Freezing Nights, various
food programs for the hungry, to
name but a few; and currently as
executive director for Bohemia
Mining Days.
She is also creator and author of
“Around the Grove” newsletter.
Cindy has not only contributed
her expertise as recording secre-
tary, but in her knowledge of de-
veloping programs and her insight
into the community. She will lend
her expertise, in a lesser degree, to
the carousel project as an advisor
and working with Nadine Kelley in
grant writing for phase 2 and 3, to
develop a permanent home for the
carousel.
This group of volunteers has
moved the project further and
faster, in a five-year period, than
any other volunteer carousel group
in the west, with the exception of
Shelby, Mont.
I will miss working with Cindy
on the carousel project. She and I
have worked together on several
boards — she is a wonderful team
member.

Election-related letters must address pertinent or timely
issues of interest to our readers at-large.
Letters must: 1) Not be a part of letter-writing campaigns
on behalf of (or by) candidates; 2) Ensure any information
about a candidate is accurate, fair and not from second-hand
knowledge or hearsay; and 3) explain the reasons to support
candidates based on personal experience and perspective
rather than partisanship and campaign-style rhetoric.
Candidates themselves may not use the letters to the editor
column to outline their views and platforms or to ask for votes;
this constitutes paid political advertising.
As with all letters and advertising content, the newspaper,
at the sole discretion of the publisher, general manager and
editor, reserves the right to reject any letter that doesn’t follow
the above criteria.
