Th anks to Cameron and
KNND!
Seven years ago, when I was a new
Executive Director for the Cottage
Grove Chamber, one of the fi rst
challenges I faced was with our
summer series of Concerts in the Park.
Th e big complaint at that time was
about the sound quality from one week
to the next. Most bands simply didn’t
have a large or powerful enough sound
system to play an outdoor concert and
Coiner Park was especially challenging
as a music venue. Fortunately, I met
a young radio station disk jockey and
aspiring sound man named Cameron
Reiten. Aft er talking to Cameron
about our challenges, he invested
some money into a sound system
and we struck a deal where he would

provide the equipment and run the
mixing board for each of the bands all
summer long. Instantly, our concerts
were lift ed to a whole new level. Bands
were happy that they didn’t have to
haul so much gear to set up and the
crowds were pleased with the vastly
improved sound. I vividly remember
the days of Cameron arriving at the
park in a taxi and me helping to guide
his driver around the notorious wet
spot in the grass that the van would
sink into whenever we failed to avoid
it.
Th e evolution of our concerts didn’t
stop with improved sound. We were
challenged once again when we saw the
need to move to the newly constructed
Bohemia Park amphitheater.
Th e
much bigger venue provided numerous
benefi ts but also gave us some serious
hurdles to get over along the way.
With each challenge, we have adapted
and grown. Th e crowds get bigger
each year, the performances are better
and the entire event has become one of
Cottage Grove’s signature recreational
activities during the summer.
