Magnolia Gardens makes Delivery of Gratitude to first responders
Inspired by the residents
and staff of Magnolia Gar-
dens as a way to express their
gratitude to members of
South Lane County Fire and
rescue following last month’s
snowstorm, Magnolia Gar-
dens directors, staff members
and chef delivered a surprise
lunch to SLCFR on March 12.
As a show of their apprecia-
tion, Magnolia Gardens res-
idents provided a full meal
to the fire department in an
effort to give firefighters a
well-deserved day off from
cooking.
“We are impressed and
grateful for the fine work
our fire department does in
our community,” said Deb-
by Johannes, Executive Di-
rector of Magnolia Gardens.
“During our recent snow
storm, we called for a trans-
port to the hospital for one
of our residents. Her hus-
band wanted to accompany
his wife to the hospital. The
EMTs generously packed up
the husband’s oxygen and
wheelchair, and they invited
him to travel with his wife
to the hospital in the ambu-
lance. We are so grateful for
all they do.”
The Magnolia Gardens
chef prepared a warm lunch
of soup, salad, homemade
bread and cookies.
“We appreciate the fire de-
partment’s efforts in the com-
munity and the traditions
they carry,” Pat Patterson,”
said former Cottage Grove
City Council member and
current resident of Magnolia
Gardens.
VFW member Dennis
Twite explained how, follow-
ing a wind storm a month
ago, the cable on the VFW’s
flagpole broke and the fire
department pitched in to
help. “It was about 30 feet
high and we couldn’t reach
it,” said Twite. “The fire de-
partment brought their truck
out and put a new cable up
for us.”
North Douglas School District
names new superintendent
“We know he will bring the excitement
and leadership that will indeed move us
to the next level.”
The North Douglas School
Board announced that Terry
Bennett has been named the
new superintendent of the
district effective July 1.
Bennett currently works
for the Oregon Department
of Education in the office of
Teaching, Learning and As-
sessment. His previous ad-
ministrative experience in-
cludes building and district
level roles in Durham (CA),
Klamath, Portland and Leb-
anon school districts cov-
ering a 17-year span. Ben-
nett has a master’s degree
from University of Oregon
in the area of Educational
Leadership. He completed
his administrative licensure
program at Portland State
University. His teaching ex-
perience includes middle
and high school social stud-
ies, distance learning and
alternative education from
1988 to 2000.
“We are really excited to
have Mr. Bennett as a new
addition to our leadership
team. He brings to the dis-
trict a great many skills
and talents that he will en-
hance and grow our school
district,” said school board
chairman Tom Kelley. “We
know he will bring the ex-
citement and leadership that
will indeed move us to the
next level.”
“As the new superinten-
dent, I am grateful for this
time to engage our district
and community in the pro-
cess of building relation-
ships, listening to all voices
of our community — stu-
dents, parents, staff, teach-
ers, administrators, board
members, residents, district
partners and civic leaders,”
said Bennett. “I will hit the
ground running to build
upon the strong legacy that
the school district and com-
munity have established for
our students.”

starting at 6:30 p.m. There
will be lots of bingo prizes,
a 50/50 raffle and the pro-
gressive blackout amount
is over $150. Due to Easter
towards the end of April,
this will be the last dinner
and bingo until next fall.
• Lorane Grange meets
on Thursday, April 4, at 7
p.m. The Grange is cur-
rently collecting new socks
and underwear for men
and women veterans, to
be handed out at the Stand
Down later this year. If
you’d like to donate, bring
new socks and/or under-
wear to any of the days men-
tioned and put them in the
barrel in the entryway —

Talent Show is scheduled
for Sunday, April 7, at 3

having stationary artwork
(woodwork, art work, jew-

Grange by 2:30 p.m. to set
up in the kitchen area. Re-
member: it’s free, so
come enjoy an afternoon
of amazing talent! Also,

will be in the kitchen.

is Kody Roberts with a
4.23 GPA, and Eli Mat-
thews

with a 4.18 GPA. Con-
