Local athletes named to all-league basketball teams

With the end of the basketball
season brings the all-league se-
lections that were filled with lo-
cal athletes.
At the 4A level in the Sky-Em
League, Cottage Grove junior
Reilly Kelty and sophomore
Matty Ladd were both named
to the first team. Junior Ema
Gardner and freshman Gracie
Arnold both received honorable
mention nods.
On the boys side, Cottage
Grove senior Creed Lufkin was
placed on the second team all-
league while fellow senior big-
man Jasper Nichols-Ferguson
was on the honorable mention.
At the 1A level in the Skyline
League, it was North Douglas
filling the ranks. Leading the
way was senior Abby Whipple
who was not only named to the
first team but was also named
Skyline player of the year.
North Douglas senior Ri-
ley Black was also on the first
team while, sophomore Na-
talie Thompson – who was
also named to the all-defensive
team – and junior Sofia Alca-
ntar were on the second team.
Rilie-Jo Olds was named to the
honorable mention team. North
Douglas head coach Jeff Davis
was named coach of the year.
Elkton was also named
throughout the teams with ju-
niors Kieryn Carnes and Aspyn
Luzier both being placed on the
first team. Sophomore Marga-
ret Byle was named honorable
mention as was junior Alexis
Halstead who also earned a spot
on the all-defensive team.
On the boys side, North
Douglas senior Caleb Parks was
named to the first team while
Warriors’ senior Jake Gerrard
was on the second team, junior
Tanner Parks on the honorable
mention and senior Killian
Bond on the all-defensive team.
Elkton senior Jaydn Woody
was named to the honorable
mention as was Yoncalla’s Bryan
Allen. Elkton principal James
Ellis, who coaches Days Creek,
was named coach of the year.
