2B COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL JANUARY 30, 2019 High School Sports Recap: Cottage Grove Bowling: The Cottage Grove girls’ team finished third at dis- tricts over the weekend and will be heading to state. The team entered as the third seed and fell to Siuslaw in the semi-finals before earning a spot at state. Cottage Grove’s Kari Kendrick was named Tournament MVP. For the boys, the team earned the six seed before being eliminated. Cottage Grove’s Josh Stewart was named a tournament All- Star. Cottage Grove Wrestling: Over the weekend, the Li- ons hosted the Cottage Grove Invitational where rough- ly 300 boys from 26 teams wrestled and 67 girls from 23 teams competed. On the boys side, the Lions finished in eighth place. The team had top finishes from Jacob Dunn (first), Drew Swenson (third), Chance Ralston (fourth) and Logan Lowry (fifth). The Cottage Grove girls took home first place at the invitational. Adele Kent fin- ished first in her weight class while Reina Herzog, Sabri- na James and Arleth Serra- tos-Hernandez finished sec- ond. Richelle Rolfe finished third, according to head coach Chris Joyce. The girls will be wrestling for a chance to head to state this weekend at Thurston High School. North Douglas Girls Bas- ketball: It was a shaky start to the week as the Warriors were defeated 21-18 against Cam- as Valley. North Douglas had a four point lead entering the fourth quarter but were out- scored 9-2 over the remain- der of the game. Against New Hope on Fri- day, the Warriors won 40-13. Natalie Thompson scored 11 points while Abby Whipple added 10. On Saturday the team continued to roll with a 60-11 victory over Umpqua Valley Christian, including a 21-point second quarter. Thompson had 16, Whipple 11 and Nicki Derrick added 10 points.
