William “Bill” J. Swires of Eugene, OR
died on November 11, 2018 at the age of 83.
He was born on April 9, 1935 in Canadian,
Texas, to parents Archie and Anna (Evans)
Swires.
He served in the U.S. Army. He was a
millwright at Weyerhaeuser for 35 years. Bill enjoyed wood

working with his hands. He especially enjoyed outings with the
family. He was a member of the Coburg Road Church of Christ.
Bill married Kathleen Joiner on May 5, 1957 in Eugene. He is
survived by Kathleen of Eugene; son, Barry Swires of Kelso,
WA; daughter, Laura (Rob) Blackwell of Scappoose, OR; son,
Ken Swires of Cottage Grove, OR; daughter, Lesa (Kevin)
Miller of Sutherlin, OR; daughter, Karen (John) Lawrence
of Happy Valley, OR; brothers, Ernest and Jerry Swires and
sister, Stella Holt, all of Texas; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-
grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on
Friday, November 16, at the Coburg Road Church of Christ
in Eugene. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November
15 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel
in Cottage Grove. There will be a private burial in Creswell
Pioneer Cemetery on Friday, November 16. Arrangements are
in the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.

Gloria May Matthews of Creswell,
Oregon passed away on October 11, 2018.
She was born on August 7, 1936 in Eugene,
Oregon to William (Bill) and Hattie Adams.
She was the fi rst of four children, Glenn,
Gladys and Phillis. She lived in Pleasant
Hill, Oregon and attended school there. She then moved to
Goshen, Oregon where she graduated from the 8th grade. She
graduated from High School in Springfi eld, Oregon.
In 1954, she met and married Steven Matthews and together
had three children, Steven R. Matthews of Salem, Oregon, Diana
L. Matthews of Springfi eld, Oregon and Donald A. Matthews of
Salem, Oregon.
Gloria was preceded in death by Glenn Adams, Donald
Matthews and her parents.
Gloria was very outgoing, had a loving heart, adventurous
and loved everyone she met. Her friendship and presence will
be greatly missed. She was an avid gardener.
Gloria had fi ve grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
We would like to thank Peace Health Cottage Grove and
Riverbend hospitals and their excellent compassionate staff for
the loving care given to Gloria. Gloria belonged to the Open
Bible Church in Dexter, Oregon. 82677 Lost Creek Rd. A
celebration of life was held on November 11, 2018.
