You were hungry.” While the city works with attorneys to clarify the ruling, Meyers said it is also looking into ways to secure the parks whether it be gates offi cially clos- ing the parks at 10 p.m. or signs notifying the public the parks are closed. Currently, individuals who sleep in RVs or oth- er vehicles leave the park when it closes and return at 5 a.m., according to Mey- ers. However, under the new ruling, individuals would be free to park on pub- lic streets, moving at least once every 72 hours in ac- cordance with current city ordinances. “But, are all of those ve- hicles registered and in- sured?” Meyers asked. “We could take action on that.” Another option that would comply with the rul- ing would be a city-sanc- tioned area for camping. Th e court ruled that the issuance of a citation was a constitutional violation if another designated loca- tion was not available and shelter space was inade- quate. Cottage Grove does not currently have a homeless shelter but according to Meyers, it would be pos- sible to create a space for sanctioned camping. “We could tie it into other services from South Lane Mental Health and may- be veterans’ services that those people aren’t utiliz- ing because they’re spread apart,” he said. “But I don’t know, we don’t know, do we designate a space?” DENTAL Insurance Physicians Mutual Insurance Company A less expensive way to help get the dental care you deserve If you’re over 50, you can get coverage for about $1 a day* Keep your own dentist!
