4A • COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL • AUGUST 29, 2018 The First Amendment O PINION Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridg- ing the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition their Government for a redress of greivences. Letters to the Editor Policy Th e Sentinel welcomes letters to the editor as part of a community discussion of issues on the local, state and national level. Emailed letters are preferred. Handwritten or typed letters must be signed. All letters need to include full name, address and phone number; only name and city will be printed. Letters should be limited to about 300 words. Letters are subject to editing for length, grammar and clarity. Publication of any letter is not guaranteed and depends on space available and the volume of letters received. Letters that are anonymous, libelous, argumentative, sarcastic or contain accusations that are unsourced or without documentation will not be published. Letters containing poetry or from outside Th e Sentinel readership area will only be published at the discretion of the editor. Political/Election Letters: Election-related letters must address pertinent or timely issues of interest to our readers at-large. Letters must 1) Not be a part of letter-writing campaigns on behalf of (or by) candidates; 2) Ensure any information about a candidate is accurate, fair and not from second-hand knowledge or hearsay; and 3) explain the reasons to support candidates based on personal experience and perspective rather than partisanship and campaign-style rhetoric. Candidates themselves may not use the letters to the editor column to outline their views and platforms or to ask for votes; this constitutes paid political advertising. As with all letters and advertising content, the newspaper, at the sole discretion of the publisher, general manager and editor, reserves the right to reject any letter that doesn’t follow the above criteria. Send letters to: nhickson@cgsentinel.com or cmay@cgsentinel.com LETTERS Speeds still too fast Pedestrians are still in harm’s way when crossing. Speeds are still too fast on Main Street and tail gating is real bad. Also, I hope the work put in on Harrison school construction is better than the way all the grass they put in. Looks like a weed patch. —Ike Shepherd Cottage Grove Thank you to Cottage Grove community for hospitality On behalf of the North West Dodge Brothers (NWDB) and the Northern California Dodge Brothers & Sisters (NCDB&S) An- tique Auto Groups (Th ose crazy people driving those Old-Cars) who visited your beautiful city over the week of Aug. 13-18, I want to thank the citizens and the City of Cottage Grove, all of the businesses, the Cottage Grove Historical Society, Oregon Historical Aviation Society and the Bohemia Mining Museum for showing our 100 mem- bers — along with their cars and trucks — your hospitality and kindness throughout our visit to your wonderful town. A special thanks must go to the City of Cottage Grove, Parks and Recre- ation Department, for al- lowing our members to display their 1915 through 1962 Dodge Brothers and Dodge vehicles around the beautiful fountain at your Wednesday Night “Music- in-the-Park” celebration. Th anks also to Travis Palmer, his staff and vol- unteers at the Chamber of Commerce for the bro- chures and pamphlets that helped to guide our mem- bers around downtown and out into the rural ar- eas of Lane and Jeff erson counties. A big thanks to the folks who prepared the guide to locating and the descrip- tions of the covered bridg- es of Lane County. Four of our members wanted to send an special thank you to all the folks at Les Schwab Tires for help- ing with blown-out and road damaged tire prob- lems occurring on the way to our meet. Our attendees want to thank Don Sperry, gen- eral manager of the Cot- tage Grove, Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram Dealership for allowing our numerous car-trailers to park in his vacant lot over the dura- tion of our meet. Congratulations to all the staff and volunteers of the Saturday Toga Parade and the evening’s “TOGA, TOGA, TOGA Party.” We hope that it was as large a success, as it was fun for the toga-wearing guests. My personal thank you must go to downtown businessman, Tim Sch- weitzer for his enthusiasm and creativity in providing commemorative “Animal House” t-shirts as souve- nirs of the community An- imal House Party and our stay in your town. Th ank you, Cottage Grove, for everything and we look forward to return- ing. —Donn Marinovich, Treasurer and Event Chair- man, Northern California Dodge Brothers and Sisters Columbia, Calif.
