“My mom is very nostalgic
and she’s so connected with the
whole experience. They had no
idea what they were doing here
and they didn’t know this was
going to turn into this thing
that I’m looking on the lawn
and there are kids in their teens
who are in togas right now,”
said Keaton. “I’m 40 and I was
a fetus in the movie. It’s incred-
ible. It’s incredible. There’s a lot
General,” which was also
filmed in Cottage Grove.
“How crazy is that? My God,
it’s nuts,” said Keaton. The
younger Roberts was invited
to come to Cottage Grove to
not only join his mother but to
perform as one of the musical
acts in the evening.

to be nostalgic about.”
After the parade downtown
and before the party began
in earnest, the local running
group, Run CG Run, hosted
a beer mile in which partici-
pants drink 12 oz. of beer be-
fore each quarter mile lap.
“I thought it would be a fun
way of getting some maybe
people who don’t train in run-
ning as much involved with
the running community here.
And then college, toga party,
drinking four beers as fast as
possible while running — it’s
kind of just an obvious fit,”
said event organizer Miriam
Udosenata. (To read more
about the race, turn to A5.)
By 6 p.m., Keaton had be-
gun the musical portion of the
day and was followed by John
Swan and the Revelators with
The Blues Sisters, The Cry,
Otis Day and Ron Steen and
then the night was capped
with The Kingsmen who de-
lighted the crowd by playing
the official song of the day:
“Louie, Louie”.
Taking in the music and
regularly breaking out in
chants of “Toga! Toga!”, the
crowd at Bohemia Park also
enjoyed the food carts on
hand. In true toga-party fash-
ion, the line that remained the
longest for the duration of the
night was for the beer garden.
Event organizers noted that
the crowd went through 20
kegs of beer.
In conjunction with the
toga party, the inaugural Bo-
hemian Film Festival also
took place over the weekend.

val, turn to page A6.
