CHAMBER NEWSLETTER
Our Mission: Th e Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce promotes economic vitality through advocacy and collaboration with its members and the larger community.
Director’s Note
We could never have imagined 40 years ago when the movie premiered that our town would soon
be the backdrop for one of the most successful comedies ever made. Who would have thought that
a bunch of rowdy rejects would resonate so well with audiences across the world and that they’d
continue to do so for generations yet to come? We certainly recognize that the world is a much
diff erent place now versus when the fi lm was made and while some of the situations, language and
jokes no longer belong in today’s society, what makes this movie so timeless is the fact that we’ll
always love a good underdog story. Watching the Delta House boys defy the rules and have the time
of their lives despite being told that they’re not good enough to belong with the rest of society is
something that I think almost everyone wishes they could do at some awkward point in their lives.
Triumph in the face of adversity is never out of fashion.
In Cottage Grove, we have faced a lot of our own adversity over the years. With an economy that once
thrived on mining and lumber mills, we’ve been knocked down more than a few times. Each time
however, we’ve managed to dust ourselves off , pick up the pieces and look for a way to get back into
the fi ght. Th e Delta House spirit lives on in Cottage Grove as much today as it did in 1978. As Bluto
once asked, “Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!” We in Cottage Grove believe
nothing is over. When times are tough, and things seem to be at their worst, sometimes the best thing
to do is throw a toga party.
