Latest Artwalk is page turner
The last Friday in June saw the traditional Art Walk continue with events scheduled through the summer. Downtown businesses open their doors to artists of all stripes with residents
and tourists alike invited to visit, eat at local restaurants and enjoy live music in downtown. The Bookmine hosted several artists at the last Art Walk included Michael Copperman who is
a fi nalist for the Oregon Book Award and Alice Tallmadge. Local jeweler Cathy Proffi t and librarian Ruth Nichols were also in attendance.

municipalities and avoid costly procedures oth-

During Monday night’s meeting, Public
Works and Development Director Faye Stew-
art presented the board with a slightly altered
intergovernmental agreement between Cottage
Grove and Creswell.
“Th e new agreement is the same as the IGA
council adopted with the city of Veneta with
one exception,” he wrote in material given to
the council. “Creswell will make quarterly pay-
ments of $22,792.50 starting July 1, 2018. Cot-

Stewart, who became certifi ed as an inspec-
tor aft er being mandated to do so by the state,
no longer has to serve in that capacity aft er the
state withdrew the requirement. However, he
informed the board that he can still serve as
a “back-up” for the two employees of the new
building inspection department.
Last month, Meyers released an update stat-
ing that 41 building permits had been issued
in Cottage Grove which generated more than
$57,000. Th e city also handled the 25 building
permits that were issued in Creswell and 38
permits issued in Veneta. Th e department also
conducted inspections, investigations and held
pre-application meetings for new construction
projects in all three cities.

According to Compiano,
no price range for the apart-
ments has been set, other than
establishing that they would be
considered mid-market units.
However, the eight units in the
Stewart Porter building are just
the start. In the lot behind
the building, Compiano said
he plans to build additional
apartments. He expects apart-
ments to be available for rent
at the end of this year, citing
the work of local companies
such as Stonewood Construc-

Queen.
“I love restoring old build-
