2B COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL • JULY 11, 2018 BIKING from B1 Four years ago, Strahan bought his own paint and started going along the trail and painting bumps and de- formities in the trail to make sure riders could remain safe on their bikes. CGS from B1 and took care of business the rest of the way to earn his fi rst CGS win of 2018. Luckman was second with Albany veter- an Craig Hanson getting third. Bryan Norton, now residing in Salem, fi nished the night fourth and behind him, in fi ft h, was Lebanon’s Josh Sim. Lastly in the Quality RV Re- pair Hornets it was Josh Corley out if front most of the way. Aft er seizing the lead on lap eight from Jasper’s Gene Ashley the Oakridge gasser, of Corley, GOLF SCORES Middlefi eld Men’s Club Monday 6/25/2018 Game: 3, 2 Best Ball First Place: -28 Frank Gates, Gary Welch, Don Perkins, John Campbell Second Place: -25 Manny Anderson, Mel Gow- ing, Jerry Pennington, Russell Bryce Third Place: -24 Bob McCarty, Tim Martin, Darrell Lee, Larry Strickland Fourth Place: -23 Jim Lehl, Bill Avery, Jim Cunningham, Larry Emery Fifth Place (tie): -22 Deross Kinkade, Don Aren- dell, Jake Cox, Pat Rickard Th e trail is his canvas and his yellow paint his masterpiece. It even got to the point that when a woman who was visiting from the East Coast stopped along the trail to talk about how much she enjoyed it, she called him “Yellow Picasso.” In a continued eff ort for the well-being of the trail, Strahan also volunteers with the city to bring toilet paper to the vari- ous bathrooms along the route. He does it all. With my own personal tour guide leading the way, we took a Sunday to travel down the trail. Th e beauty of the Row River Trail cannot be under- stated. A sunny day along a trail that winds its way through trees and next to Dorena Res- ervoir makes you feel like you are living in your very own “Visit Cottage Grove” adver- tisement. From the start of the trail on 10th and Main to the end at Culp Creek is just over 16 miles that stays fl at. For bikers of all abilities, it would be easy to carve out as many or few miles that you would want to ride. On the return trip, we elected to stray off the trail to go past the Dorena Cov- ered Bridge before taking the rolling hills along Shoreview Drive that gave us the view from the other side of the res- ervoir before we hopped back on the Row River Trail to com- plete our 34-mile trip. It was exciting, it was thrill- ing, it was a great time to ride a bike. Young me would be so proud. Corley had no issues and went on to win for the fi ft h occasion this season at the Grove. Graig Osborne, from Cre- swell, was the runner-up and Eric Ashley, also from Jasper, was third. Gene Ashley fi nished fourth, followed by Brad Mof- fatt, of Eugene in fi ft h. Cottage Grove Speedway held more racing last Saturday, July 7, during the Herz Preci- sion Parts Wingless Nationals. Th e night featured the Wingless Sprint Series, Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifi eds, IMCA Sport Mods, and Quality RV Repair Hornets. For more information log on to www.cottagegrovespeedway. com.
